I still look for it every time I go to TJs, because there is a small sliver of hope left alive somewhere my heart.

There's gotta be a relatively simple way to put it together...does TJ's sell those green and red curries by the jar?

Hadrian VIII, Wednesday, 27 May 2015 20:37 (eight years ago) link

i just learned that their roasted seaweed snacks are hella gross

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 28 May 2015 19:42 (eight years ago) link

i tried adding their thai green curry to some tuna and it was disgusting.

The curry sauce is good over tilapia or other fish filets, though.

Y'all are crazy those curry tuna packets were barftastic.

Avocado salsa: very good

nb: Jeff hated it. I ate the entire tub.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Tuesday, 16 June 2015 19:29 (eight years ago) link

i never go to TJs, but if i did i need stuff where you don't have to turn on the oven (microwave OK)

the increasing costive borborygmi (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 16 June 2015 19:48 (eight years ago) link

Tasted like watered down guacamole.

Jeff, Tuesday, 16 June 2015 20:07 (eight years ago) link

morbs: the canned tuna is really good, the frozen indian food is really good, the cheeses in the dairy case are okay. you can do well.

music begins where words leave off (get bent), Tuesday, 16 June 2015 20:16 (eight years ago) link

The Indian food in the packets is good, too.

kate78, Tuesday, 16 June 2015 20:18 (eight years ago) link

thanks.

i actually did turn the oven on twice recently... for samosas.

TJ's frozen falafel is very bad and tastes like horrible chicken nuggets

mad maxwell's wasteland death suite (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 16 June 2015 22:47 (eight years ago) link

all the salsas i have had from TJ have ranged from awful to mediocre

the double roasted one is probably the best of the lot, but yeah.

music begins where words leave off (get bent), Wednesday, 17 June 2015 01:47 (eight years ago) link

I like the salsa autentica bc its like your standard Mexican restaurant free table salsa but the spice level can vary pretty widely from jar to jar.

the sriracha bbq sauce would be amazing if it had about a third less sugar, but that's my complaint about most commercial bbq sauces. it wouldn't be too hard to make my own, though. it's tomato paste, sriracha, vinegar, sugar, and garlic, basically.

opened a package of those steamed lentils today and they freakin' rule. made KILLER tacos, but they're already lightly seasoned so perfect for salads too or whatever

super grandma of me but i dig their fig bars

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 27 July 2015 05:29 (eight years ago) link

Quiche is good for using up leftover vegetables but of you don't have any of those, bacon, spinach, mushroom, and Swiss cheese is always good IMO.

Most of what I buy from Trader Joe's are either bottles of wine or minimally processed items that I can use as ingredients in meals, such as cheese, nuts, or olive oil. But of their convenience foods I can recommend:

Several other similar varieties of Indian food in pouches are also good (nb: Punjab eggplant), but this one seems the best of the lot.

Aimless, Wednesday, 12 August 2015 02:21 (eight years ago) link

We eat those pouches at least once a week. Sometimes twice.

Jeff, Wednesday, 12 August 2015 04:31 (eight years ago) link

i ate them too often for a while and got sick of them. so i don't like them anymore, which sucks, they're madly convenient and i used to love them.

JuliaA, Wednesday, 12 August 2015 21:36 (eight years ago) link

They are fantastic for camping. No refrigeration needed and much better tasting than anything that comes out of a can.

Aimless, Wednesday, 12 August 2015 23:21 (eight years ago) link

I like the Punjab Cholley variety, actually has some heat.

Liked their new pickle-flavored popcorn, though I actually wish the pickle-flavor was a bit more intense.

Modern French Music from Failure to Boulez (askance johnson), Monday, 31 August 2015 15:28 (eight years ago) link

They brought some discontinued products back...veggie burritos and black bean and corn enchiladas. Veggie burritos are good although they have a surprising amount of fat...also they have really elaborate instructions for microwave burritos imo (you have to run them underwater, and puncture them which is really hard to do w a frozen burrito at least for me).

Black bean and corn enchiladas are pretty basic and healthy but are tasty w some hot sauce.

The 'heat and serve' roasted rack of lamb was on sale so I'm giving it a shot tonight. I don't think I've ever had re-heated lamb but I'm not expecting brilliance.

it sounds...not good

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 1 September 2015 23:11 (eight years ago) link

Green plumcots.

Jeff, Tuesday, 1 September 2015 23:51 (eight years ago) link

The rack of lamb was... okay. Very garlicky, which was a bonus. Maybe lamb is just so damn mild I need it to be spicy to really enjoy.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Wednesday, 2 September 2015 00:25 (eight years ago) link

xp YOU'RE green plumcots

Y Kant Max Read (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 2 September 2015 13:56 (eight years ago) link

I wish. I would devour myself.

Jeff, Wednesday, 2 September 2015 14:58 (eight years ago) link

Is this Green Dragon sauce a new thing? Tomatillo/jalapeño in a squeeze bottle, loving it.

Hadrian VIII, Saturday, 5 September 2015 12:14 (eight years ago) link

it's not bad! it has a tartness that's not just vinegary. tomatillo, there you have it

μpright mammal (mh), Saturday, 5 September 2015 14:26 (eight years ago) link

FUUUUCK I went to TJs yesterday and forgot to buy the Milano cookies noooooooooooooo

Y Kant Max Read (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 5 September 2015 14:29 (eight years ago) link

Where IS that Green Dragon sauce? I couldn't find it yesterday and they were busy, didn't want to bother an employee.

We Boo... The Cross (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Saturday, 5 September 2015 18:17 (eight years ago) link

Is it refrigerated, I mean, because I didn't see it in the hot sauce section.

We Boo... The Cross (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Saturday, 5 September 2015 18:17 (eight years ago) link

it was on an aisle end cap when I was there, as a new product

μpright mammal (mh), Saturday, 5 September 2015 20:14 (eight years ago) link

wasn't refrigerated here, just in w/ other assorted hot sauces in addition to end cap

Hadrian VIII, Sunday, 6 September 2015 13:14 (eight years ago) link

give a big miss to their "mango ginger chutney," putting that in quotation marks because it tastes EXACTLY like sweet chili sauce, don't let the orange color fool you. which is fine, i like sweet chili sauce, but they are definitely not interchangable.

i sampled the sriracha ranch dressing recently, it's wayy too spicy to use as a dressing imo unless you are a spicy field but it would probably make a good dip.
