fighting third set notwithstanding, Thiem's just made too many errors on big points today, and Cuevas is perennially underrated

(I wasn't wowed by Thiem's form vs Bedene in R1 tbh. Maybe tired from his first title last week)

Putintseva has Svitolina on a string right now. Moonballs that push Svitolina into the back fence followed by slices that make her dig balls out from mid-court followed by sudden injections of pace followed by dropshots that make her cry

Weak sauce ending from Fognini even in the context of a weak sauce performance overall

Putintseva tightened up so much and now this match is full-on psychodrama

I kind of want Fognini to do a reality show

RIP Gulbis's ranking, which will sink to around 90. Mahut played really well in his R1 vs Coppejans so despite his clay-averse rep, that was a NID result to me

- Putintseva wins point of the tournament to save break point at 4-4

- On resumption Putintseva hits an error and a DF to get broken in 5 secs
- Svitolina serves for the match, saves BPs, gets to MP, thinks she hits a winner
- Putintseva circles mark and pumps her first, umpire comes down to check, it's indeed out
- Putintseva then bellows C'MOOOOOON twice

- Putintseva bellows C'MOOOOOOON another three times

And now we're at 5-5

Some of Putintseva's racquet antics have been out of control. When she chopped it into the ground like it was an axe. When she assaulted her own feet with it. This is my favourite match of the year

Putintseva misses a smash, assaults her knee with her racquet, hits a clean dropshot return winner on the next point

Svitolina wins 9-7 in the third. I feel drained after that

Kuznet wins set on her 7th SP, after surviving nine deuces at 4-4 and another four at 5-5. Amazing.

Sveta served for the match twice, broken both times. Fran saved a MP with a ridiculous BH winner, followed it up with a ridiculous touch volley and then Sveta DFed. This match was always going to go into extra time and here we are at 6-6!

Well, I guess this proves the old adage than no one ever wins a match losing their serve six times in a row in the decider. My god.

Another seed out - Pliskova goes down to Romania's Fed Cup heroine Mitu. Not a huge shock given that Pliskova's servebotting game is less effective on clay, good for Mitu for closing it out eventually despite some huge nerves

Kokkinakis comes back from two sets to 0 and then 2-5 in the fifth to beat Tomic, which feels like a metaphor for Tomic's career vis-à-vis Younger Australia

Tomic's season hasn't been bad, he just seems to be injured all the time
