it was kinda funny - on-purpose funny for once - and we got jerome flynn's wonderfully tuneful voice, not bad imo

Just realised Tommen must be freaking out and could command soldiers to kill all the sparrows.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Monday, 25 May 2015 20:06 (eight years ago) link

Meryn Trant is the commander now, right? And out of town.

polyphonic, Monday, 25 May 2015 20:17 (eight years ago) link

Somebody else will probably be fulfilling his duties.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Monday, 25 May 2015 20:25 (eight years ago) link

they addressed that. cersei reminded him that if they attack the sept Queen Marge and Ser Loras would likely be killed.

soldiers cld just waltz in there and take them back sans bloodshed tommen just cant do it cause hes a dumb lil kid

lag∞n, Monday, 25 May 2015 20:41 (eight years ago) link

i don't think soldiers are good at the doing-things-without-causing-bloodshed

who is the toughest warrior who is actually still in town and not in prison.

polyphonic, Monday, 25 May 2015 20:57 (eight years ago) link

xp tbf in westeros it's quite hard for anyone to do anything without causing bloodshed, may as well just go for it.

i figured cersei was trying to make tommen buy into the idea of the sparrows having an authority and importance beyond just something which she was bestowing upon them. except then they lock her up and suddenly they actually do.

I think you're overrating the abilities of a one handed man a bit is all, albeit largely bc nothing motivates anyone like religious fury

slothroprhymes, Monday, 25 May 2015 22:19 (eight years ago) link

also the remaining kingsguard are largely useless

slothroprhymes, Monday, 25 May 2015 22:20 (eight years ago) link

when people were saying at the beginning of the season that religion was going to start playing a bigger part on the show, I didn't know that meant religious dudes were going to take over and put everyone in dungeons

its more abt authority than physical might, kings landing is basically experiencing a power vacuum cause the king is a little kid and the hand of the king is impulsive and cruel, i may be giving the show too much credit tho

Easily the best of the season, gives me hope they'll pull it round.

The piling on of misery is just wearing, tho.

Too much credit? I mean it's pretty clear that's what they're going for. The scenes in King's Landing have always explored power dynamics on some level.

They haven't done too much heavy signposting here but #occupybaelorscrypt has been pretty on the nose.

In a similar vein to what you were saying, Jamie as somebody that administers violence as his day job would have instinctively understood why arming the faith militant is an insanely bad idea when they draw from a much larger and less controllable recruiting pool (poor people) than the Kingsguard and gold cloaks (people the crown can afford to pay).

tsrobodo, Tuesday, 26 May 2015 10:05 (eight years ago) link

The only scenes I really liked in this episode were those between the High Sparrow and Diana Rigg/Cersei. Jonathan Pryce is a great addition to the cast, and I'm now kind of on his side in wanting to overthrow the corrupt nobility.

idg the sand snakes or that weird scene in the cells, but at least they didn't kill off Bronn

idg the sand snakes

They are good at killing people, also hot.

Anyway they and Bronn are probably going to team up and escape.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Tuesday, 26 May 2015 10:42 (eight years ago) link

Most of that scene makes sense eventually if you give it enough thought but then you ask yourself why you're working so hard to justify tits on HBO.

tsrobodo, Tuesday, 26 May 2015 10:57 (eight years ago) link

Actually I predict her and Bronn are going to get it on, and he'll have to choose between her and a quiet life in a big castle with his frumpy bride.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Tuesday, 26 May 2015 11:05 (eight years ago) link

Clearly they're setting up a spin-off with Bronn and the Sand Snakes solving crimes and generally getting into mischief in Dorne.

So I'm guessing Diana Rigg is going to move in and become Tommen's adviser in the absence of anyone else who can help him.
