I wonder if Lacy will come out for the last round.

He's dead on his feet. The referee must really hate Lacy to let this continue.

109-100

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 03:09 (eighteen years ago) link

He's taken a point off joe. He might have still won the round though.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Sunday, 5 March 2006 03:09 (eighteen years ago) link

I wonder if Lacy will ever recover from this beating.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Sunday, 5 March 2006 03:10 (eighteen years ago) link

This must be stopped now.

DOWN!!!

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Sunday, 5 March 2006 03:11 (eighteen years ago) link

I've seen more fairly matched domestic violence.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 03:11 (eighteen years ago) link

Lacy will recover. His career won't though. This is a straight massacre and showing up of every single one of his faults.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 03:12 (eighteen years ago) link

I can't believe the ref is allowing Lacy to get such a beating.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Sunday, 5 March 2006 03:12 (eighteen years ago) link

A boxing lesson for Lacy. Calzaghe has every round.
Magnificent stuff.

EASY!!!!

Fantastic. That was the making of one legend, and the destruction of a myth.

Best i've seen a british boxer box since Lloyd Honeygan Vs Don Curry.

Fight is repeated at 11.25am.
I think i'll tape it. Any latecomers reading this thread make sure you don't miss this.

Calzaghe Top 5 P4P. No question about it.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 03:16 (eighteen years ago) link

Noone will want to fight Calzaghe now. He was just awesome.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Sunday, 5 March 2006 03:17 (eighteen years ago) link

He hurt his hand in the 8th round and he still destroyed him.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Sunday, 5 March 2006 03:21 (eighteen years ago) link

Calzaghe to move up and fight Antonio Tarver at Light Heavy, by the sounds of things.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 03:26 (eighteen years ago) link

Did anyone catch the points scoring? I think 2 of them were 119-105 and 119-106.

I wonder what Joe had on his ipod earlier haha

I'm so glad this was on ITV.
Fuck sky and their pay-per-view.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Sunday, 5 March 2006 03:30 (eighteen years ago) link

(And I thought the two scored 119-107, no?).

Nicholas Passant (Nicholas Passant), Sunday, 5 March 2006 03:33 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm not sure. Need to check the BBC site.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Sunday, 5 March 2006 03:35 (eighteen years ago) link

Brutal. I switched over to HBO afterward (in time to start watching Fernando Vargas and His Exploding Eye), but I don't know how much respect Calzaghe earned.

He had Lacy bleeding from the first round and never really put him down (one knockdown that was a maybe) - that kind of power (or lack thereof) doesn't make moving up a class sound too brilliant.

Two judges scored the bout 119-107 while the other scored it 119-105.

That was a rape

Jimmy Mod: The Prettiest Flower In The Pond (The Famous Jimmy Mod), Sunday, 5 March 2006 04:58 (eighteen years ago) link

The Cotto-Branco fight was pretty nasty, I think Branco ended up with a busted jaw and bad shoulder before he threw in the towel.

Fernando Vargas's eye was much worse than it looked in photos.

Looks like we were the only ones who watched it.

Damnit...I go to Vegas and miss the one boxing thread on ILX for the next calendar year. Bah.

Alan Conceicao (Alan Conceicao), Sunday, 5 March 2006 23:37 (eighteen years ago) link

Maybe there will be another one along shortly.
Scott Harrison is fighting soon I think. I just hope it's not pay-per-view on sky.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Monday, 6 March 2006 00:06 (eighteen years ago) link

Harrison/Guzman is gonna be a barnburner. Of course, I won't be able to watch it in the states, almost guaranteed. Ugh.

Alan Conceicao (Alan Conceicao), Monday, 6 March 2006 00:18 (eighteen years ago) link

I really hope this is an ITV fight.

Busy Williams replaces Harrison

Danny Williams will defend his Commonwealth heavyweight crown in Glasgow on 25 March following the withdrawal of Scott Harrison.

Harrison was due to defend his WBO featherweight crown against Joan Guzman but has picked up a gum infection.

Williams last fought on 25 February, when he took a split decision against British champion Matt Skelton.

Williams said: "I thought I'd be out for a while before a potential fight with (WBA champion) Nikolay Valuev."

The 32-year-old added: "I was delighted when I got the call - I wanted to keep busy to stay off the chocolate bars and cakes.

"I don't care who is put in front of me, but I will knock them clean out because no-one is getting in the way of my second world-title shot."

Harrison is in no condition to take on Guzman, of the Dominican Republic, according to his father and trainer, Peter Harrison.

He said: "Scott's training has been a nightmare from the start.

"He developed a cold in the first week, but everything seemed OK following the birth of his daughter, Maria.

"But then Scott was hit by a gum infection and was forced to return from Fort William to visit his dentist.

"Things have got worse since then and Scott phoned me on Sunday morning to say his neck was swollen.

"When I visited him, I could see he had swollen glands and we got in touch with Frank Warren straight away to advise him of the situation."

For a weird weird moment there, I thought that meant Guzman was gonna move up from feather to heavyweight to fight Danny.

Haha thats what I thought too!

four weeks pass...
Guzman Pulls Out Of Harrison Fight

I'm disappointed but not surprised. He seemed to be running scared.

Next week Joe Calzaghe fights Brian Dowling.

Dom Passantino, Saturday, 7 April 2007 21:57 (seventeen years ago) link

I missed it, only just finished work. A predictable result though.

xpost Dom OTM, I imagine

Matt, Saturday, 7 April 2007 21:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Totally out of Calzaghe's league. Calzaghe won so easy. Too old at 35 eh? He kicked your ass.

Now it's all fights in America I reckon. He destroyed the 2 great american hopes EASY. Manfredo wasn't fit to lick his boots.
Let's hope Joe gets the credit and big fights he deserves now before he actually does get too old.

Manfredo wasn't fighting back and was out of his league. Joe would've knocked him out if it had continued.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Saturday, 7 April 2007 21:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Calzaghe vs Jermaine Taylor next, then.

Dom Passantino, Saturday, 7 April 2007 22:00 (seventeen years ago) link

Also Manfredo looks and talks like he's just walked out of a 30s gangster flick.

Dom Passantino, Saturday, 7 April 2007 22:01 (seventeen years ago) link

"When are the Americans going to get it: Joe Calzaghe can actually fight"

Dom Passantino, Saturday, 7 April 2007 22:04 (seventeen years ago) link

Manfredo = waaaaaaay too nice a guy

Porkpie, Saturday, 7 April 2007 22:05 (seventeen years ago) link

Is Amir Khan due a step up in quality? I note another easy win this evening
