I doubt that Cersei has thought out the consequences of her actions. She is gaining control over King's Landing at the cost of the city and whatever other areas it controls. Gutting her government's top ranks means that there are fewer qualified people in control. I doubt that giving power to a guy who can't control his own followers was a good idea.

Pretty convenient that the one guard she sent to Braavos was the one on Arya's list.

I thought that Cersei letting the Moral Majority tear up Littlefinger's brothels meant that she'd turned against him

cersei doesn't know where lil pete is, in the episode before this bolton gave him a note that had been sent by raven to the eerie (where he's supposed to be) and had been brought to winterfell by a rider.

This thread might be the most unwieldy one on all of ILX. God help you if you want to load all messages to refer back to anything.

Also: This show is confusing!

show all messages (8366 of them)

I wonder why we didn't do a new thread for each season

Is It Any Wonder I'm Not the (President Keyes), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 13:06 (eight years ago) link

because we still haven't answered the question in the thread's title

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 13:16 (eight years ago) link

however, no spoilers please, so any answers to whether the show will be for nerds or not should be posted as an image with a completely black background with your text answer that is only slightly less black on top, so that the text is only visible when you tilt your laptop screen waaaaaaaaay back

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 13:18 (eight years ago) link

this show is for one particular nerd, who will be revealed in the final episode when his name is pulled out of a hat and he receives a bag of dragon bones

The Jon Snow/Melisandre scene was just weird. "I'm going to show you something", "not one of your visions", "nope" *whips out tits*

Friend predicted this approx half a sec before it happened.

p:s nerds know (dog latin), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 16:25 (eight years ago) link

to be fair, it's not a particularly risky prediction in this show

DJP, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 16:29 (eight years ago) link

Even down to inconsistencies like how awhile back one unsullied dude got his nipple sliced off without wincing but Grey Worm howled in pain when he was stabbed.

In the books, the Unsullied were regularly dosed with some anaesthetic drink that dulled their ability to feel pain, but stopped imbibing once White Savior Lady freed them. Don't recall if the show mentioned this or not.

TBH not sure if either GW or Selmy are dead, we could just get a "Meanwhile..." cut to them recuperating next episode. (No spoilers or previews, this is pure speculation.)

season has been somewhat lackluster and wander-y thus far; perhaps we're building to something?

probably not

Is It Any Wonder I'm Not the (President Keyes), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 17:46 (eight years ago) link

i think a lot of shit's about to pop off based on what happened in the last one!

slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 17:46 (eight years ago) link

dany is finally at a point where she has no choice but to fully commit to one course or the other, like either dig into meereen for good or give into some concessions and get ready to gtfo (insert arg. about she's been that way since last season etc etc etc).

considering how fast the faith militant began committing hideously violent reprisals on those they deemed "sinners," no way that doesn't get 1,000x worse.

All the actors at the premiere kept hinting at a big shocker to come this season. I think maybe Cersei will be killed after the situation she has created gets out of control and Jaime will be left needing to choose a new life.

Sansa/Bolton related thing is probably the strongest bet though.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 18:10 (eight years ago) link

I kept waiting for Bronn to ask Jaime to give him a hand in the row boat.

Madison Dumbbarfer (Leee), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 18:11 (eight years ago) link

My speculation is whatever plot that goes on w/ Sansa and the Boltons will be rudely interrupted by Stannis

They actually addressed this you know. Bronn was rowing and gave Jaime a look, Jaime responded by holding his arm up a little and shrugging.

Friend predicted this approx half a sec before it happened.

it's been fairly clear this would happen since last season. in that tv way of somebody noticing a member of the opposite sex as signifier for sex scene coming soon.

For a thread that spent so much time talking about terrible fluctuating accents awhile back I'm surprised we haven't discussed Obara Sand in the last ep (despite the other reasons that scene was pathetic).

Evan, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 19:32 (eight years ago) link

the accents...bothered people? really?

*headdesks into another universe*

slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 19:38 (eight years ago) link

Obara accent pulled me out of the moment (again, among other things) so headdesk away in that case but yes, there was some discussion a few seasons back esp regarding Littlefinger's fluctuating accent. Us 'mericans aren't as sensitive to such things.

Evan, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 19:42 (eight years ago) link

max wrote at least one extended gawker piece on the accents of this show that was rooted in this thread iirc

Don't think that's the case -- I think if Westeros was supposed to be like "early America" and characters talked like they were from Texas in one episode and then like they were from Philly in another, it would be jarring to us

Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 19:50 (eight years ago) link

i think re: littlefinger producers may have initially asked him to do a more posh english accent and were eventually like "oh fuck it" and he's stuck with the thick brogue ever since

alternate theory that may be jumping through hoops to explain something: littlefinger is from a very poor shitty provincial area called the fingers. i imagine their accents are thick (ppl will note that the northerners have thicker irish, scottish or northern english accents whereas king's landing folk don't aside from the poor people in flea bottom). when he's in king's landing he has to fake being an aristocrat, as indeed he's done his whole life. since he doesnt really have to do that anymore perhaps he is talking in his natural accent

slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 19:51 (eight years ago) link

The accents don't really bother me either -- they just code as some variant of BBC costume drama

Yeah I meant we aren't as sensitive to these particular accents. Not that we aren't sensitive to accent fluctuations in general.

article is p entertaining for what it is, however it ends with something that drives me utterly batshit:

Well, first of all, I care. Second of all, the cornerstone of science fiction and fantasy fandom is nitpicking.

the first of all part is fine. thats subjective. but i've often wondered why exactly this is always the case, and it's what keeps me away from a fair amount of hard genre stuff

This episode kinda went overboard on scenes when one character asks another a question, and they answer "hmm, let me tell you an anecdote that reveals an essential piece of history in two minutes flat", but otherwise I enjoyed it. Some excellent thinning out of fiftieth-wheel characters at the end.
