WFMU Record Fair

Just got back. Very nice space, light and airy, unlike previous venues. Very dismayed at the jacked up prices though.

Worked Todd-o-phonic's table Friday/Saturday and we took turns walking around.

i went on saturday, pretty much all day with a few breaks for beer and fresh air.

i got a lot of stuff, was mostly looking for folkloric/ethnographicd LPs but wound up with some jazz and stuff too.

highlights -

I went late Sunday and scooped up a couple of cheap things. Missed James Chance, but did see Fat White Family's singer's head damn near explode.

bright phoebus was my big splurge. i bought it from a friend so i got a little money off but..

highlights were the last lilian hak album and the first frida hyvonen album, something by jay-jay johanson, there's probably more in there

i don't covet records (or i try not to) but i covet bright phoebus

also a bunch of kristin nordeval records in the 50-cent bins, which, if they're good enough for alex ross they're good enough for me

Was anyone else there on Friday?

Went on Sunday. Stopped for a cup of coffee up the street from the venue before I went in. Once I got inside I realized I couldn't find the change for my coffee (I had paid with a $20.00 bill.) So I hustled back to the coffee shop (still didn't find the $) and it was raining so hard that the stamp on my hand washed off so I had to beg for re-entry. Stressful few minutes. Once I got my shit together it was a pretty great show. Found some good deals (U-Roy, Bill Withers & a few more.) I have to make sure to be less high next year.

I helped Todd again this year on Friday. Had a nice time!

Roughly half of the people that show up early admission on Friday seem like they blindly put on whatever clothes are in an old box in the attic and then rush directly over to the expo center.

Be happy they put on clothes, even if it's a Bad News Bears jersey.

Unlikely to make it today due to dumb job seeking.
