OK, if it weren't for the Wale/"Fucking"-free version, I'd be devastated that he felt the need to ruin the beautiful fragment that was last year's "Coffee." But as it stands, I may now have a new fave Miguel song.

Also, why does it look like he has the Van Halen logo tattooed under his neck in that (otherwise smouldering!) photo?

Bit nervous to know which version is going to make the album. The version without Wale is just about perfect.

Maybe he'll do with-AND-without Wale versions on the album like "How Many Drinks."

Love this guy, but everything he's done post-Kaleidoscope feels very one note to me

'the thrill' seems a comparison designed to arbitrarily cardinalize that song's qualities, i reject it

'use me' x 'arch & point', if anything, otoh

if i was gonna make a favorable comparison, i would say that the layering of vocals on "coffee" reminds me of the sort of static dreaminess of "kaleidoscope dream," a song that seems slight at first but really reveals itself over time

praise going up to miguel for making the solo version free - even aside from wale the clean version is a lot better

solo version is spectacular, "fucking" is terrible

having a prominent curse word to conspicuously edit seems like something radio actively gravitates to these days, would be terrible if not surprising if stations opt to play "f___in' in the morning" over "coffee in the morning."

Adding 'fucking' + putting Wale on both seem like total studio moves to me, the original was just called 'Coffee' after all

The motorik slowburn of the arrangement (which carries over to miguel's performance) is so captivating, I think this works better for not going for the pop jugular, it just hangs there suspended and teasing.

I might actually prefer the youtube rip to the iTunes store version, there's something Wall-of-Soundish about the final two minutes that benefits from a mussing of the edges

miguel is kind of like a cartoon version of a sexy dude while also being a really sexy dude

that's why "Coffee" works -- the "turns into" verse mirrors what happens when after a few drinks the guy become steadily sexier (he could have also titled it "How Many Drinks").

I have only listened to the Pure Miguel version of this and I'm kind of scared of the other version TBH, but wow, I didn't realise how much I needed this until it was here.

This is exactly why it works? The level of metatextuality and knowingness to his performance of ~Male Sexuality~ which only serves to heighten his actual sexiness.

You know it was a Certain ILX0r on social media getting all annoyed about the promo image and the hole in Miguel's jeans that even alerted me to the fact of this single's existence. (Which is really annoying because hot damn, that is Spotify Hipster Boyfriend's job to alert me to this kind of thing, but I think he's jealous because he thinks I fancy Miguel.) The kind of frothing "for gods sake, lad, put some pants on" reaction just made me realise that he knows exactly who his target market is, and how to hit us.

Sigh.
