I likef this ep, the North stuff in particular. Can't tell if I either like Roose Bolton as a character or just the actor but I usually enjoy his scenes, especially the one with Littlefinger.

I like that they're implying Roose is smart enough to potentially not let Littlefinger get away with his usual schemes. Looking forward to seeing them interact more.

Evan, Monday, 27 April 2015 15:10 (nine years ago) link

His behavior was Tywin-esque this episode. Too he's a package deal with one-note Ramsay.

*too bad

klonman, Monday, 27 April 2015 15:20 (nine years ago) link

roose is def as smart as littlefinger but a bit more shortsighted. mostly in the sense that if littlefinger had fathered a child who grew to be ramsay, littlefinger would've made him have an accident long before ramsay became the serial killer he is now.

slothroprhymes, Monday, 27 April 2015 15:27 (nine years ago) link

He's probably less dispassionate than Littlefinger. Obviously has a real deep seated grudge against the Starks.

Only watched the first two eps and I'm in agreeance with Local Garda - nothing is going on and it just seems wasteful. And as said, it's understandable they have to set up the pieces before they knock em down, but everything seems so aimless to me, especially since I haven't read the books and the last season was a year ago.

A lot of the wit and repartee, the action and the plot feels pedestrian and drawn out now. I also have to admit that I'm confused about a lot of the characters' motivations. Much as I was a bit frustrated by Bran's "We've got to keep walking this direction with this rag-tag bunch of nobodies for ill-explained reasons" plotline, it now feels like that's the case for almost everybody. There'll be a long boring piece of exposition about why someone's decided to trek to Dorne, and then five dull scenes of them walking/riding up and/or down the map discussing back-story.

I thought there were supposed to be white walkers and giants about to smash down the wall any moment, but apparently they're tired now or something? Anyhow, the ticking clock seems to have gone from this season so far. It's 4.30 on a Friday afternoon and the GoT characters are looking at their watches waiting for the weekend to start.

And no I'm not asking for a Michael Bay movie either, I just don't get a sense of progress so far. It's just more of the same, with a predictable dual battle happening simultaneously in Dorne and at the Wall.

but then again, who really cares? I don’t. (dog latin), Monday, 27 April 2015 15:41 (nine years ago) link

i also have trouble distinguishing between the guy who plays roose bolton and the guy who plays stannis baratheon. i think for a while i thought they were supposed to be the same person, which confused me very much.

but then again, who really cares? I don’t. (dog latin), Monday, 27 April 2015 15:45 (nine years ago) link

I agree that the overarching tension we're supposed to be constantly feeling in regards to the impending "winter" and how it represents the march of the white walkers is a bit lost in favor of focus on the character's very personal goals and missions at the moment.

xp

besides the physical similarities, their scenes are also shot with a similar color palette and lighting, in contrast to most of the other locales/houses, which get their own unique styles.

Karl Malone, Monday, 27 April 2015 15:51 (nine years ago) link

Pretty sure John Snow/Starks "winter is coming" was the first time someone has uttered that phrase in two seasons. Maybe it's actually coming now.

1) people come to the house of black and white in order to die (by drinking the water in the fountain)

2) it took arya stark a full day of getting rained on and twiddlin' her thumbs and getting picked on by teenz in order to enter the house of black and white.

---------------------

either the people coming to the house in order to die are willing to go through a lot of hassle in order to die quickly and peacefully, or arya was using the wrong door or something

Karl Malone, Monday, 27 April 2015 19:03 (nine years ago) link

So what will they do with the body? Anatomy lesson and/or disguise material?

xxp, there was a comment forever ago about the actress who plays sansa having to deal with a brutal rape scene while her parents were on set, i guess that's inevitable

You don't understand this process at all. Those people enter through "shipping and receiving" side door.

Evan, Monday, 27 April 2015 19:56 (nine years ago) link

oooooh, and Arya had to use the "emerging acolytes" door

retract halfhearted zing, am projecting bad mood onto unwitting ilxor

im finding it interesting that the other fantasy show that's on rn, outlander, appears to be showing similarly disturbing content of that specific nature and not attracting as much attention

Evan, Monday, 27 April 2015 21:10 (nine years ago) link

negative attention, that is. as yet. then again perhaps the director of an episode of that show did not do something as stupid as say to a critic that the obvious and highly disturbing rape depicted on his show was not a rape, leading to his not being a director on the show anymore

schwantz, Monday, 27 April 2015 21:53 (nine years ago) link

All the promo shots for Outlander make it look like The Notebook or something, is there more to it than that?

Rila Fukushima will be a proper character?

Tyrion was really dumb boasting out loud like that. I assumed Jorah was taking was taking him to Cersei but others are saying Danaerys.

I had to be reminded that Janos betrayed the Starks but I thought Jon beheaded him because he'd be either useless or a traitor.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 28 April 2015 00:43 (nine years ago) link

After hearing Neil Marshall speak of the HBO pervert audience representative, I've been amused by the idea of this one guy creeping around the sets of many of the HBO shows, with cast and crew trying to get rid of him like Mario trying to get rid of Lakitu the cloud driving annoyance.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 28 April 2015 00:51 (nine years ago) link

Some people do seem to get impatient when there aren't Big Shocking Events happening. I mean, this episode had a wedding and no-one even got murdered during it. But I enjoyed this ep quite a bit, actually.

Yeah, Tryion was getting a little loose-tongued (who was that woman who spotted him?), and I also think Jorah is whisking him off to Daenerys - he's obviously still got her on his mind, what with drinking away his sorrows in close proximity to Dany cosplay prostitutes. Whether or not she's becoming less popular as a ruler; they clearly still think she's hott.
Margaery is also starting to be less careful about what she says in front of Cersei when she's with her giggling handmaidens. I did like "we'll get some wine for you - it's a little early for us".

Arya in a dress. I liked the girl assisting her, in the House of Black & White; hope she becomes a recurring character.

painfully alive in a drugged and dying culture (DavidM), Tuesday, 28 April 2015 12:07 (nine years ago) link

Well, Rila Fukushima (famous fashion model turned actress, I know her best from second Wolverine film but she's been in other tv shows too) is obviously a red priestess but I don't know if there's enough to suggest she'll be in it much as anything other than a sign of the spreading of that religion.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 28 April 2015 13:40 (nine years ago) link

i don't think GoT takes a well known face and gives it a speech and a closeup and a meaningful exchange of looks with a lead character without having the payoff of more of the same, especially when it's a young beautiful woman

if sansa is filling the role of a character from the books who marries ramsay snow, it will be very unpleasant indeed
