sorry if the voting was open for a little while, i had to have it open for an extra week because of work. i also asked for a lot in the Boo Radleys poll with four categories.

Just a simple song but God I love it Embedded in me, so bittersweet I’m addicted, I’m a melancholic Sing it again, I’ll be your Poll forever: THE BOO RADLEYS - ILM artist poll #60 or new numbering #65

So, what's next?

kornrulez6969, Monday, 27 April 2015 17:52 (nine years ago) link

If mookieproof and van horn street are ready to look after the threads (I'll do the images), I'm okay for Yo La Tengo...although #66(6) is ahead of us.

clemenza, Monday, 27 April 2015 17:59 (nine years ago) link

yes 66. Emo/Screamo/Mallcore/(post)Hardcore - Mordy is next

although idk if Mordy is aware of this

Οὖτις, Monday, 27 April 2015 18:03 (nine years ago) link

Hey plz remove me from the queue- I don't have time to run a poll atm and when I do I think I'll run something outernationally not mallcore.

Mordy, Monday, 27 April 2015 20:32 (nine years ago) link

Mookieproof? VHS?

clemenza, Tuesday, 28 April 2015 01:23 (nine years ago) link

Very excited about the prospect of a Yo La Tengo poll.

kornrulez6969, Tuesday, 28 April 2015 14:12 (nine years ago) link

ok - YLT is next then unless someone says otherwise. Removing mordy's screamo/mallcore poll from the list.

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 28 April 2015 15:29 (nine years ago) link

I'll e-mail those guys. If they're busy, I'll just open up a voting thread; hopefully they'll be ready to count down in a couple of weeks.

Back when these artist polls were cranking up (4+ years ago, christ), it never occurred to me that voters would want long voting periods to study a discography. My own method is/was to take a day at most to refamiliarize myself with the work and do a quick 'n dirty ballot based on my opinion at the time, not to discover new opinions. I've tried the intensive study method for a few polls, and only enjoyed the experience once (Bowie). In his case, I came away with a much deeper appreciation for the artist and discovered a ton of great music. For Beach Boys, Motown, etc., it was too much like work.

One of the reasons I bailed on keeping up the list (thanks again, Shakey) is because I hate how long these things are taking now. Are we even managing one a month now?

WilliamC, Monday, 18 May 2015 17:11 (eight years ago) link

no

Οὖτις, Monday, 18 May 2015 17:15 (eight years ago) link

we're in a stretch of pretty niche acts for ILM with appeal to niche groups of posters who are probably not super active on ILM and so things get dragged out.

droit au butt (Euler), Monday, 18 May 2015 17:25 (eight years ago) link

Speeding things up wouldn't hurt. But in defense of long time periods, by far the 2 most revelatory polls for me--The Kinks and P-Funk-- benefitted from long voting periods where I was able to fully grasp both acts genius for the first time. I'm not sure that would be the case with a more truncated approach.

We could just make sure to launch a new one every 2 weeks, regardless of voting deadlines. There would be multiple polls going at the same time, but at least it would move faster.

kornrulez6969, Monday, 18 May 2015 17:36 (eight years ago) link

well Creedence is next if Crut wants to get started - they have a relatively small discography and a wide fanbase, no reason that couldn't go quickly.

Οὖτις, Monday, 18 May 2015 17:39 (eight years ago) link

I dunno, how does the chorus of "Fortunate Son" go again?

pplains, Monday, 18 May 2015 17:40 (eight years ago) link

Once every two week seems fine to me. If one wants to speed things up, I don't mind have another poll starting now, YLT fans will be there for YLT. I don't think CCR or hair metal will take too much away from the poll.

Van Horn Street, Monday, 18 May 2015 17:45 (eight years ago) link

So who's up? Is it time to bust out Cosmo's Factory yet? Or should we be reacquainting ourselves with the Def Leppard oeuvre for Hair Metal?

kornrulez6969, Wednesday, 20 May 2015 18:15 (eight years ago) link

ask crut

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 20 May 2015 18:15 (eight years ago) link

I am ready to choogle

droit au butt (Euler), Wednesday, 20 May 2015 18:21 (eight years ago) link

i know i'm no longer managing this thread, hell i sort have been off ILM for a minute. but can someone open a new poll please? YLT won't even start results until next week. so calling:

Mordy has bowed out of "Emo/Screamo/Mallcore/(post)Hardcore" so unless someone else picks it up that one is out.

Creedence Clearwater Revival - crüt
Hard Rock/Hair Metal - how’s life
Extreme Metal - Viceroy
Stephin Merritt - Gukbe
Metallica - Pleasant Plains

I'm doing Spoon after Metallica but i just did the Boo Radleys, so i'm far from ready...

Bee OK, Thursday, 28 May 2015 02:18 (eight years ago) link

oh damn How's Life is out too so:

Hard Rock/Hair Metal - how’s life

unless someone takes it over.

Bee OK, Thursday, 28 May 2015 02:37 (eight years ago) link

I webmailed crut but he didn't answer

Οὖτις, Thursday, 28 May 2015 15:30 (eight years ago) link

I just sent him a FB message.

Carly Furiosa (WilliamC), Thursday, 28 May 2015 15:43 (eight years ago) link

argh! sorry. I'll get right on it!

example (crüt), Thursday, 28 May 2015 16:10 (eight years ago) link

Hard Rock/Hair Metal - how’s life

unless someone takes it over.

btw gr8080 is down for this one per his post upthread

Οὖτις, Thursday, 28 May 2015 17:07 (eight years ago) link

i've been really hankering after a 2000s Amerindie tracks poll lately. i'd be crap at organising it, but would anyone be interested?

boat of boats (dog latin), Tuesday, 16 June 2015 09:31 (eight years ago) link

If that means I get to vote for Bardo Pond, yes!

Falconetti Pot (Leee), Tuesday, 16 June 2015 17:29 (eight years ago) link

so it looks like gr8080 with "Hard Rock/Hair Metal" is next? unless Johnny Fever is ready to do the half decade thing or 2010-2014?

Bee OK, Wednesday, 17 June 2015 02:17 (eight years ago) link

Metal is next yes

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 17 June 2015 02:39 (eight years ago) link

aaaah we are doing a half decade poll?

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 17 June 2015 20:14 (eight years ago) link

this list is for artist and genre polls, period polls are separate and no half-decade poll was ever proposed to be part of this list so

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 17 June 2015 20:21 (eight years ago) link

gettin my fascist poll organizer hat on

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 17 June 2015 20:21 (eight years ago) link
