Would be better if the whole thing was within the parentheses:

Glad to see, as the years advance, Bill showing an interest in the more mature woman.

Wyman is one of the key originators of this genre, glad to see he's dedicated to seeing it through.

That was the name of his autobiography as well as the album. A title so good, he decided to use it twice!

'Back to Basics' gets minus points for not having him standing there with his back to the camera.

admirable restraint in not spelling it 'bassics' or showing the back of the bass

"Whatever Turns You On" has been posted before but it really is one of the best in thread IMO, never gets old.

I spotted a couple of borderline cases while rummaging yesterday, let me see...

Also thought about The Association - Insight Out but that's '67 and probably does come from a different place.

I meant to point out that the Aztecs album has a gatefold cover, inside can be seem here, possibly nsfw:

soref, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 14:53 (eight years ago) link

that one is from 1974, but this style of album title seems to have remained hale and hearty in Australia for at least a decade or so after mostly dying out in the rest of the English speaking world

Just mentioned on the debut albums thread, from 1971:

Gerry Rafferty - Can I Get My Money Back?

new noise, Saturday, 16 May 2015 15:19 (eight years ago) link

Oh, so there's a copy of I've Got My Own Album To Do at my local alleyway shop, with a very flattering employee-pick sticker on it. The tracklist is pretty promising too. I think it was around eight bucks or I woulda just snapped it up. Is this actually a good album y/n?

― Doctor Casino, Friday, December 12, 2014 1:42 PM Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

i snagged it btw, and having finally got a replacement belt for my replacement turntable, i'm giving it a spin, and, two tracks in, i feel comfortable saying he did, indeed, have his own album to do.

Free Beer - Nouveau Chapeau (1977)

Unfortunately:

When Elvis died in 1977, RCA let many acts go, choosing instead to focus on repackaging 'The King'. The members of 'FREE BEER' decided to pack it in but have remained friends and in touch and continue to pursue performing and songwriting careers. However, recent interest in the band has motivated this site, and who knows what else?

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 16 May 2015 22:11 (eight years ago) link

seriously though that self-titled cover is fucking amazing, can't believe that's not canon "best album covers of the 70s"

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 16 May 2015 22:12 (eight years ago) link

This thread is better than many museums.

Speculating that there must be an album out there with a airbrush painting of lumberjacks felling a tree, perhaps with musical instruments as their axes, hollering the title, "TIMBRE!"

Psych bands should arguably be excluded from the thread as I think the intention of the cornball titles was meaningfully different - but still:

Stuff - Stuff It!

moans and feedback (Dinsdale), Monday, 25 May 2015 17:12 (eight years ago) link

dunno why but i have this feeling Stuff are probably better than most of the bands in this thread, can anyone confirm?

(to wit, have been listening to and enjoying Lighthouse's One Fine Morning, the dollar purchase of which prompted the above posts. it's not bad if you're in the mood for some very optimistic and kinda corny/borderline bubblegum sentiment from your psych-ish rock bands. title track is solid, and there's a great dumb melodramatic number about families on the california gold rush.)

Doctor Casino, Monday, 25 May 2015 17:21 (eight years ago) link

Kinda liking the Stuff It! cover - the frazzled hair, the way her white shorts make her top half look disembodied, the fact that "Stuff" in concentric circles is apparently their logo.
