5/5s is my favorite in terms of design

marcos, Monday, 13 April 2015 23:15 (nine years ago) link

tbh I even like the 5c design

marcos, Monday, 13 April 2015 23:15 (nine years ago) link

I like how it doesn't feel so fragile and vulnerable, the only recent iPhone that doesn't feel like it needs a case

marcos, Monday, 13 April 2015 23:17 (nine years ago) link

btw as newer iPhone users my wife and I got otterboxes for our 5ss but when they arrived in the mail we had to say gtfo with this clunky-ass garbage, fuck these ugly cases

marcos, Monday, 13 April 2015 23:19 (nine years ago) link

we sent them back

marcos, Monday, 13 April 2015 23:20 (nine years ago) link

gettin a galaxy s6. hope apple's wounds heal with time.

i didn't use a case for a year with my 5, still haven't with my 6, cases are so unnecessary

call all destroyer, Monday, 13 April 2015 23:32 (nine years ago) link

for the 6+ it's essential to have a case or it will slip right out. something super slim and lo pro tho with some grip, like the incipio feather.

#wegonnabechampionship (Spottie), Monday, 13 April 2015 23:35 (nine years ago) link

i6 designs are pretty lame i agree. 5 was the best cos it was like the 4 but slightly slimmer and slightly lighter. still like the way that one looks/feels.

#wegonnabechampionship (Spottie), Monday, 13 April 2015 23:37 (nine years ago) link

i've had my 5 for abt 2 and a half years, never used a case.

Clay, Monday, 13 April 2015 23:39 (nine years ago) link

lol cases

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 13 April 2015 23:44 (nine years ago) link

lol Applecare.

schwantz, Monday, 13 April 2015 23:51 (nine years ago) link

Only case I would consider is one of those ones that has the credit card and money insert

, Monday, 13 April 2015 23:58 (nine years ago) link

lost my 5 bc it fell out of my pocket. FA returned two causes: short pants and no case.

Cases are for grip only. I'm under no illusion that they would offer any kind of protection.

i love the extreme levels of condescension and arrogance u can only get with frequent ilm posters. more please!

I never cracked a screen until the 5. I've cracked the screen on both the 5 and 6. My impression is that if you don't have a case on either of those phones, you are tempting fate in the worst way.

DJP, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 12:36 (nine years ago) link

replacing screen also not that cheap or easy imo

i replaced my 3g screen myself but i think it's basically impossible to DIY now

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 14 April 2015 14:43 (nine years ago) link

I think it's prob in this thread or the other one, but I dropped my 6 face down on a rock, took it to an Apple store, and they had the whole thing replaced and ready in 45 minutes.

I had applecare and had to pay the accidental damage deductible, but I think w/o that it was like $100

tempted to try the replace iphone 5 charging kit posted earlier b/c mine connects only fitfully. but I am scaaaaaaared even though I've assembled bunches of dumb pcs over the years.

droit au butt (Euler), Tuesday, 14 April 2015 14:47 (nine years ago) link

The ridiculous part was that I did it the night before driving to Chicago with a friend, so I just started trying to line up an appointment time with the time when we'd be driving past the right suburban Apple store, and it worked

its a lil tricky and def has a possibility for further damage theres a bunch of tiny ports and screws to deal with, heres a video detailing the process u cn judge for yrself

I have dropped my current 3GS on more rocks than I can count. It refuses to die.

pplains, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 15:25 (nine years ago) link

if i want to replace the charging port and batter on a 4s, how hard is it?

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Tuesday, 14 April 2015 15:31 (nine years ago) link

lag∞n, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 15:33 (nine years ago) link

urgh that guy has done it lots of times, i want someone who has done it once to tell me what it felt like

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Tuesday, 14 April 2015 15:34 (nine years ago) link

it felt a little scary but i was proud of myself after, im not like super mr fixit or anything fwiw

lag∞n, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 15:36 (nine years ago) link

just take a systematic approach go slow and u shd be fine, make sure you have a good container to hold the screws etc, theres prob like a 5% chance u will break ur phone

lag∞n, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 15:37 (nine years ago) link

I took the case off of my 6 yesterday for the first time in a year and remembered why I use one - no grip on all those smooth, rounded edges. It felt like it was trying to get free of my hands. And the case I use has a soft inside w/ a hard shell, so it absorbs shock when I manage to drop the phone anyway.

I think it's prob in this thread or the other one, but I dropped my 6 face down on a rock, took it to an Apple store, and they had the whole thing replaced and ready in 45 minutes.

The apple care deductible for replacing my cracked screen was $80. Still pretty expensive, IMO.

Je55e, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 15:38 (nine years ago) link

NEW iPhone 6 Screen Replacement done in 5 minutes is a really misleading title!

Je55e, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 15:43 (nine years ago) link

my 6 case has almost nothin to do with pro (i've trained myself to assume if i drop it, even in the case, it's breaking- to lessen future psychological agony when i drop it and it breaks), it's all about grip. i fumbled the naked 6 like 3 times, and always managed to save it. i really like the feel of the super sleek rubber apple cases, but they are almost too sticky in some pockets.

men without hat tips (Hunt3r), Tuesday, 14 April 2015 15:44 (nine years ago) link

$80 is indeed expensive but I am willing to believe Je55e and I are particularly skilled at breaking things

mh, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 16:44 (nine years ago) link

I never broke a phone until the 5. I've broken both the 5 and the 6. I drop my phone at the same rate that I always have.

DJP, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 17:54 (nine years ago) link

I have never broken a phone.

Jeff, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 18:42 (nine years ago) link

I've ruined a number of phones with water but never broke one until the screen on my iPhone 6 broke. And that wasn't from dropping but (I'm pretty sure) from squeezing myself around a badly parked car with the phone in my pocket.

Je55e, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 19:21 (nine years ago) link

I figured you were taking a selfie with a wild animal and it slapped it out of your hand

mh, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 19:25 (nine years ago) link

If you care about Apple’s media players, 8.4’s promising. Music.app was re-written. A few photos:

http://9to5mac.com/2015/04/13/hands-on-ios-music-app

Maybe an OS X version will appear and they deprecate iTunes?

Allen (etaeoe), Tuesday, 14 April 2015 19:28 (nine years ago) link

I am scared to click on that in case you are trolling me and they didn't really touch the Music app

mh, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 19:28 (nine years ago) link

One of my favorite features in the iOS 8.4 Music app is the ability to manage your queue of songs. Apple has offered this in iTunes on the Mac for a while now, but never on iOS. With iOS 8.4, however, you can now choose to play a song next, or add it to your full queue.
sigh pathetic
