copyright lawyer > corporate blog management is not the typical internet person trial by fire

lag∞n, Monday, 13 April 2015 17:07 (nine years ago) link

yeah but c'mon he left Engadget in 2011, meaning he'd already been in tech blogs by then. four years ago!

idk man he was in a zone where noone wld think to make fun of his bracelet

lag∞n, Monday, 13 April 2015 17:29 (nine years ago) link

I like that after 15 years of wearing the spiky bracelet, he doesn't have a better term for it other than spiky bracelet

, Monday, 13 April 2015 17:30 (nine years ago) link

he prob really bought it like two weeks ago

If Apple isn't putting together a spiky punk rock version of their phone right now then they are dropping the ball.

DJP, Monday, 13 April 2015 17:47 (nine years ago) link

since they took on that oz bloke for design their products have been looking fucking awful. i6 is probably the worst looking phone in years. they used to be slick.

Daukins (Arctic Noon Auk), Monday, 13 April 2015 17:55 (nine years ago) link

what are you even talking about

mh, Monday, 13 April 2015 17:57 (nine years ago) link

agreed its a pretty bad visual design, also too big, or they shdve at least continued to offer a smaller one

lag∞n, Monday, 13 April 2015 17:57 (nine years ago) link

Enjoy gawker's slug URL vs what the headline actually says on the website.

pplains, Monday, 13 April 2015 17:58 (nine years ago) link

who is going to take anyone seriously wearing an iwatch

Daukins (Arctic Noon Auk), Monday, 13 April 2015 18:00 (nine years ago) link

I kind of assume he's trying to blame Marc Newson for shit that was already in production when he was hired as a part-timer

mh, Monday, 13 April 2015 18:00 (nine years ago) link

I only take spikey bracelets seriously

mh, Monday, 13 April 2015 18:00 (nine years ago) link

apple have totally lost their way. no one is looking at a £500 klunky komputer wristwatch as cool. they used to only do cool produtcts. Jobs would never have stood for this shit.

Daukins (Arctic Noon Auk), Monday, 13 April 2015 18:02 (nine years ago) link

Auk, please post a picture of your wrists and any adorning bands, watches or jewelry or I will refuse to take you seriously

mh, Monday, 13 April 2015 18:05 (nine years ago) link

oh cool, so the iSpikyBracelet displays your various text messages on the individual conical frustums or

apples success is mostly predicated on on making products that work better than the competition whatever cool they have (a pretty dubious claim for a consumer electronics company) come from that

lag∞n, Monday, 13 April 2015 18:06 (nine years ago) link

iphone 6 is pretty sloppy compared to its predecessors tho

lag∞n, Monday, 13 April 2015 18:06 (nine years ago) link

idk I had a 3g, 4s, 5s, and 6 and imo the 6 is best

mh, Monday, 13 April 2015 18:07 (nine years ago) link

IMO I rank the phones I had:

4
6
5
3G
3

apples success comes from them figuring out how to make tech stylish and sheek, and trapping users into restrictive software. only at that point did apple take over the world.

Daukins (Arctic Noon Auk), Monday, 13 April 2015 18:12 (nine years ago) link

I was going to respond to this until I noticed "sheek"

i dont own one so i cant speak from personal experience but: antenna lines on the back, raised camera lens, the thing thats the worst tho imo is how the edges curve out for like what reason its the oddest nonsensical use of space espcailly for a device that is already big (compare to the 3 where they gently sloped in to rest peacfully in the hand), also just generally looks kinda generic and bad

lag∞n, Monday, 13 April 2015 18:15 (nine years ago) link

i was making some interaction mockups the other day and the software i was using has an image of a hand holding the iphone framing the interactions and i was all why do they have this generic phone image some sort of copyright thing i guess i have to paste an image of the real iphone over it then when i googled to find an image i realized that is the real iphone lol looks like an samsung

lag∞n, Monday, 13 April 2015 18:17 (nine years ago) link

I agree the antenna lines and raised camera are incongruous but I think they've finally settled into the fact that people put cases on these things and used that as an affordance
flat edges suck imo

i assure you as usual u have no idea what youre talking about and are repackaging the least insightful received wisdom as bold truth telling

there is def a good argument against flat edges but these are not good rounded ones, general shape of the 1-3 was obvs the best

lag∞n, Monday, 13 April 2015 18:20 (nine years ago) link

also spelling chic as "sheek" is pretty good

mh, Monday, 13 April 2015 18:20 (nine years ago) link

no I had the 3 and used the 1 a lot, the rounded edges were the exact size as a bar of soap when it reaches maximum slippery droppability imo

mh, Monday, 13 April 2015 18:21 (nine years ago) link

lol i thought he was trying to say sleek

lag∞n, Monday, 13 April 2015 18:21 (nine years ago) link

the ol bedrock "bar of soap" product design colliery

lag∞n, Monday, 13 April 2015 18:22 (nine years ago) link

i mean as long as its not actually made out of wet soap

lag∞n, Monday, 13 April 2015 18:22 (nine years ago) link

this is why I use shower gel now, it's well documented on ilx

mh, Monday, 13 April 2015 18:23 (nine years ago) link

iphone should come with pubes on it

to improve grip

and mouthfeel

there's a "Don't Go Makin Phony Calls" -> "Waterfalls" -> soap commercials with waterfalls joke here somewhere

3gs still the best shape imo, if only it wasn't so plasticky cheap feeling

stet, Monday, 13 April 2015 20:56 (nine years ago) link

I just don't care that much about the form factor. As long as the new model is faster, got a better camera, some other new feature, etc, then I'm happy.

Jeff, Monday, 13 April 2015 21:01 (nine years ago) link

I tried selling my 3gs to one of those mail-in services and it got rejected due to a crack in the plastic down the back

lagoon otm about iPhone 6

marcos, Monday, 13 April 2015 23:14 (nine years ago) link

marcos, Monday, 13 April 2015 23:15 (nine years ago) link
