aces; judy gold was very funny

Maybe in 100 years someone will say damn Dawn was dope. (forksclovetofu), Friday, 10 April 2015 03:46 (nine years ago) link

who was the actress who played gold's partner? I recognized her.

dan selzer, Friday, 10 April 2015 04:25 (nine years ago) link

so is he really just ignoring everything that happened at the end of last season? haven't checked but bringing the title music back suggests yes as much as anything

funny bits but too predictable an outcome with the pregnant woman and the lazy cartoon angry lesbian thing wasn't cool

nashwan, Sunday, 12 April 2015 12:18 (nine years ago) link

are you really asking about plot continuity on Louie, in its 5th season?

some dude, Sunday, 12 April 2015 12:48 (nine years ago) link

well even Pamela was asking about it last season...

nashwan, Sunday, 12 April 2015 12:53 (nine years ago) link

i just don't think there's ever gonna be anything on the show that he's not willing to shake the etch-a-sketch on and just move on to the next unrelated story.

some dude, Sunday, 12 April 2015 13:02 (nine years ago) link

lazy cartoon angry lesbian seems more fair a characterisation if we accept that louie really is an asshole, which isn't so hard to do

cis-het shitlord (Merdeyeux), Sunday, 12 April 2015 22:35 (nine years ago) link

everyone is a lazy angry cartoon on this show and gold is very very funny
good interview

Premise ridiculous. Who have two potato? (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 12 April 2015 22:50 (nine years ago) link

only catching up with s4 now after binge-watching the whole thing but the whole pot-smoke flashback two-parter was a tour-de-force in comedy/not comedy writing. great acting too.

but then again, who really cares? I don’t. (dog latin), Monday, 13 April 2015 15:21 (nine years ago) link

Louie sure has a lot of random sex

Οὖτις, Monday, 13 April 2015 15:22 (nine years ago) link

loved how this last one jumped around and refused to ground itself

this show is crazy good

shots fired @ woman in the dunes eh

johnny crunch, Saturday, 18 April 2015 03:47 (nine years ago) link

the scene where he starts an annie hall style flashback and they go so far to show an elementary school class before pamela pulls it back to the present and they just go on was A++++++

dan selzer, Saturday, 18 April 2015 03:58 (nine years ago) link

Ugh loathe adlon's character so much

Οὖτις, Sunday, 19 April 2015 23:39 (nine years ago) link

it's partly the fact that she inspires so much loathing that I enjoy her character so much. their relationship means a lot to me, and I like that Pamela/Louie episodes tend to have a collaborative feel (bolstered by Adlon's story credits).

fuck me, archipelago (Simon H.), Sunday, 19 April 2015 23:44 (nine years ago) link

I feel like she brings the show to a dead halt. Once she appears everything more or less becomes an exercise in frustration (both for louie and the viewer) and that's p much all ya get.

Οὖτις, Monday, 20 April 2015 00:19 (eight years ago) link

pam adlon is fucking awesome, the character is painful as
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UVNT4wvIGY
but totally true

Premise ridiculous. Who have two potato? (forksclovetofu), Monday, 20 April 2015 00:44 (eight years ago) link

would've made more sense to have swapped episode 1 and 2 around (pamela tells louis she wants a more casual/open thing so THEN he has sex with the pregnant woman) but yeah i know...

they're both as bad as each other obv

nashwan, Monday, 20 April 2015 07:43 (eight years ago) link

the show has always done one-off episodes that don't call back to anything else or even exist in the same universe, but it was still weird to make that one the premiere

fuck me, archipelago (Simon H.), Monday, 20 April 2015 12:45 (eight years ago) link

Thought this one was unexpectedly sad with that cop.

I had often been annoyed at how he talks about young people so it's funny to see the starting scene.

except since when has the show been concerned with continuity?

he quipped with heat (amateurist), Friday, 1 May 2015 20:58 (eight years ago) link

liked the Michael Rappaport episode a lot, best one of the season so far imo

Οὖτις, Friday, 1 May 2015 20:58 (eight years ago) link

the cop one was like the archetypal louie episode.

starts out in farcical mode, shifts to the comedy of embarrassment with an added element of social satire, but then becomes something much darker and weirder, and makes the most contemptible character a figure of pathos.

he quipped with heat (amateurist), Friday, 1 May 2015 20:59 (eight years ago) link

also, michael rappaport has let himself go :(

he quipped with heat (amateurist), Friday, 1 May 2015 21:00 (eight years ago) link

making a show where we're supposed to feel sorry for an ignorant, violent cop was more than a little ngggggggggghh
counterpoint that with the almost casual understanding-as-a-given the sheer incompetence of nypd.... the scene with a vanload of cops getting out in front of louis who all ignore the pistol on the ground in front of him seemed like it could be taken as serious thumb in the eye
but rappaport was convincing and the situation was compelling all the same

Premise ridiculous. Who have two potato? (forksclovetofu), Friday, 1 May 2015 21:04 (eight years ago) link

i don't know if we're supposed to feel sorry for him as much as be aware that he's trying to make us feel sorry for him.

I can't type anymore

Οὖτις, Friday, 1 May 2015 21:40 (eight years ago) link

i think the rappaport characters eventualy freak-out and howl of despair was anything but a plea for sympathy (even if the character was clearly intensely self-pitying). and louis ck depicted it almost clinically. i response with a mix of empathy and revulsion.

he quipped with heat (amateurist), Friday, 1 May 2015 22:46 (eight years ago) link

i can't type either, apparently.

Man comedy pegging is like a thing this year.

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 02:03 (eight years ago) link

strictly speaking I don't think that was full-on pegging

fuck me, archipelago (Simon H.), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 03:27 (eight years ago) link

my god, the boogeyman leaping out of the doorway may have been the scariest thing I've seen this year; i believe i audibly screamed

With respect to Rappaport's character, I'd say 'this is a character you're meant to see as a human being with layers' most definitely did not equate to 'this is a character you're meant to sympathize with'. Because that guy was like the archetype of people I go out of my way to avoid.

Doggy McBaby (Old Lunch), Friday, 8 May 2015 20:16 (eight years ago) link

That was a shitty episode.

I laughed a lot at Louie's brother being convinced he was the older brother. I think he's quite funny in general.

anyone else deleting this off their DVR's rn?

not a garbageman, i am garbage, man (m bison), Saturday, 16 May 2015 17:37 (eight years ago) link

You mean the nightmare episode or the series generally?

Pamela is trying to be more realistic about their relationship, although her fears (about both of them being just barely still fuckable in mid-40s, "retarded tits" etc) come through very clearly---nevertheless, her hectoring zings etc.(as delivered, anyway) tend to make her seem like a hip variant on the standard sitcom buzzkill hottie wife-mom to the feckless underdog male.

Ahh. Didn't know there were new developments on the Louis CK Might Be A Fucking Creep front.

Like what?
