savage is a rapper from new zealand and this song "swing" was featured in a scene in knocked up (when seth rogen and the other dude meet the girls at a club, iirc) and then a few months ago it showed up on itunes as remixed by soulja boy and now its in the top 50 and savage has signed to universal. no idea how any of this happened.

after "Paper Planes" A&Rs just started combing all Apatow movies for any other international artists to break in the U.S. urban market

yeah but i should note that "swing" was a #1 in new zealand in 2005 (hit #81 in the US) so this soulja boy remix is happening 3 years after the song hit and almost a year and a half after the movie

well i wasn't being serious but that is interesting. haven't heard the song, though.

its actually pretty good! the original sounds like "tipsy" though i haven't heard the remix

yeah, I wrote something about "L.E.S. Artistes" popping up on the Modern Rock chart the same week that "Paper Planes" debuted, but it just dropped right back off after a week or two while the M.I.A. kept on climbing. didn't really strike me as a radio hit, I can barely remember how it goes now.
