it hasn't hurt Jon Knight anyway, not when Zayn can join the reunion tour in 2031.

and it's working! (fwiw i am not against or for this band/group/assemblage of young britishers/whatever the proper term is)

A search for the phrase “IM CRYING” yielded the most pathos-drenched view of the despair, with between four and six tweets per second, most in capital letters. Some users claimed to be crying at school, others spoke movingly of crying in cars, crying in public or crying in the bathroom.

Did you shop horns onto second-from-the-left too

He's got horns

:'( bye favorite

but i am glad he is doing what he wants, i'm sure wriggling his way out of the group and their contractual obligations must have been extremely tough

dyl, Wednesday, 25 March 2015 20:37 (nine years ago) link

isn't it not-so-subtly implied in the PR that he got kicked out, not left on his own

more like dumb direction

ienjoyhotdogs, Wednesday, 25 March 2015 21:34 (nine years ago) link

like, this came two days after a cheating scandal, plus the cited reason is "stress" which is celebrity pr-speak for drugs, booze, etc. I'm all for taking fans seriously but at some point feet have to hit earth again

katherine, Wednesday, 25 March 2015 21:35 (nine years ago) link

i dunno considering what their recording and touring schedule has been like it seems pretty plausible that he just got tired of the lifestyle and wanted out

good luck being a "normal 22 year old", super-famous guy

was the 'cheating scandal' serious? i didn't pay much attention to it

dyl, Wednesday, 25 March 2015 22:55 (nine years ago) link

obviously we don't know for sure but j0rdan otm i think, their management has run them into the ground (they're literally never not on tour or recording) and to be honest i'm surprised something like this hasn't happened sooner what with the intense nature of their fanbase and the scrutiny that comes with that.

http://www.theguardian.com/music/musicblog/2015/mar/26/without-zayn-malik-one-direction-four-goofy-white-guys-shouting

"Malik’s function in the band was in some ways obscure or invisible. He didn’t write for the band often, and when he did he usually appeared among a galaxy of co-writers on the group’s most gelatinous ballads (Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne are responsible for the majority of the group’s internal songwriting). His modesty and the economy of his expression gave him the reputation of the “quiet one” and the “mysterious one” among the boy band taxonomies. In the One Direction documentary, This Is Us, he features minimally compared to the rest of the group; when the band takes a break from their aggressive and interminable touring schedule, Malik is depicted in isolation, in a room he’s decorated entirely with graffiti. In another scene, he streams by the camera on a Segway. His smile seems to materialise slowly and almost imperceptibly across his face, composing itself atom by atom."

my (baseless) theory is that he's been trying to get out since shortly after the beginning but wasn't able to until he breached a morality clause in his contract w/the cheating scandal

i like this theory

J0rdan S., Thursday, 26 March 2015 16:38 (nine years ago) link

"an enduring image of One Direction is of Malik in the Night Changes video, the soft and intricate cascade of his hair merging with a dense knot of spaghetti"

this is so beautiful <3

prolego, Thursday, 26 March 2015 16:54 (nine years ago) link

i don't think there was any morality clause lol - he's already cheated on perrie publicly before so this is nothing out of the ordinary - but he's clearly hated the whole experience for sometime and was recording with naughty boy solo a few months back, so he probably just used the uproar to cite stress and get out now.

prolego, Thursday, 26 March 2015 16:58 (nine years ago) link

although there's already a broad consensus within the directioner stanbase that their management keeps them in loveless closeted relationships so this could feed into those theories.

which of the Directioners would Zayn have been boinking on the sly?

The teacher who looks after our entry music used "Best Song Ever" this morning, and then I heard it again in a record store on the way home. Now I know why. (It's a song I always enjoy hearing.)
