and "revolution" is not a "black to comm" cover
"Revolution" is to "Black To Comm" as "Suicide" is to Suicide.

"Come Together" may be the most overrated SPZ track. There's something very ordinary about it, like it could have been recorded by a hundred other bands.
I didn't expect to see three LICD tracks in the top forty (even if they're all fairly low) ... actually four tracks if you were feeling generous and wanted to tack on "Lord Can You Hear Me", or even five tracks if "Out of Sight" shows up later.
― NoTimeBeforeTime, Monday, 9 March 2015 22:04 (nine years ago) link
I assume "Out of Sight" will make it, because this duffer voted for it.

ugh yeah, Will Carruthers not Sean Carruthers. Although I like the songwriting better on LGM, the band is really on fire on Pure Phase. That double-time Jam at the end of "Good Times" is something else. It's a sharp contrast to when I saw the band Summer of 2003 and they were awful. They played like they were hungover from a night of doing ecstasy in which nothing of note happened. This was Field Day Fest in a rainy June in Giants stadium. Beck apparently broke his ankle or something dancing to Blur's set and I got spared an hour of mopey Sea Change songs. Elliot Smith played a muffled set in which he forgot a few of his songs halfway through (this was a few months before his death). My jam band friend hated everything except a young My Morning Jacket, which is so completely appropriate. Radiohead headlined and they killed it, which made me all the more disappointed in Spiritualized because I had heard both bands were neck and neck when they were touring together in 1997.

Wow, v eased w "Electric Mainline" placing
Had a v profound moment in college where I was walking listening to it really loud and it was about to rain but it was SO DARK AND GREY but for like several minutes on end and a torrential downpour was so imminent (like you could see it several blocks away) but instead there was just a humid stillness and it took forever to actually start raining and when it did the sky just opened instantly

there is a live version of Things Will Never Be the Same on the Spiritualized Let it Flow single that is absolutely smoking. was in setlists for the Pure Phase tour for some reason.
Honey maybe the best of those three imo

My favourite version of "Things'll Never Be the Same" came from this tour:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJ_iAI9ua8s
Amazing Grace is far from my fave SPZ album, but this was the best gig I ever saw them play.
― NoTimeBeforeTime, Tuesday, 10 March 2015 21:59 (nine years ago) link
I've seen them so many times on so many tours I'd be hard-pressed to pick a "best" - although often whatever album they were promoting at the time was often completely unrelated to how well they performed on any given night.

Voted for Come Down Softly to My Soul. Hits similar pleasure points as I Believe It (which I foolishly forgot to vote for), and it satisfies the gear nerd in me with that amazing Vox Continental sound...about as good as the continental sounds outside of a Fela Kuti record.
Was never big on Things Will Never be the Same. The recording drags a bit to me, and I'm not really a fan of Pierce's occasional attempts to do snarly 'tough' rock vocals. This live version from Spacemen's 2nd Euro tour sounds pretty lively though (at about 11:20): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxrrL95TLj8

1. playing with fire2. pure phase3. perfect prescription4. laydeez and gentlemen...5. toss-up between fucked up inside and dreamweapon
1. rollercoaster (long)2. big city3. electric mainline (pure phase version, you could probably treat it and 'born never asked' as one track)4. i believe it5. all of my tears (pure phase version)6. suicide7. things'll never be the same (forged prescriptions version)8. feel so good9. how does it feel10. let me down gently11. smiles (was this on some volume magazine compilation?)12. lord can you hear me (LICD version - possilby indefensible choice)...and on and on. I am not as familiar with sonic's oevure as I should be.

I don't know if anyone linked this yet, but here's the Byron Coley Spin piece that first alerted a fair number of people (myself included) to Spacemen 3. I still remember being fascinated by their album covers, of all things. They just looked like they had to be an amazing band...

Can't the next poll start anyway? Not sure why it'd have to wait for the final results of this one.
I'm quite enjoying the leisurely pace of the rollout.
Also, too low.
