WTF with Marc Maron (it's a podcast)

On a related note, can anyone recommend a few episodes of Getting Doug With High where comedians go in-depth about their depression and/or suicide attempts? The tone of that show is so disappointingly frivolous.

You want people to talk about their depression or suicide while they're high?

can anyone recommend a podcast where the goal is not to be funny, but you know, if a few belly laughs should come out of it, they aren't going to like, stop it from happening?

Are there any episodes of Car Talk where they only talk about paintings.

xp but do carolla and rose really delve into topics?

afaict there is only one topic discussed on Corolla's show: the work ethic of non-white people

I though the Paula Poundstone episode was funny, it's not particularly recent, it is on youtube though

in addition to the live episodes, i usually find the confrontational episodes pretty funny (like the recent one with Jason Nash. the Jeff Garlin one was pretty good in this way too.).

xp to PK: I guess that could swing either way, but I'll assume the worse in Corolla bc I am definitely not listening to his podcast

xp I think Garlin is done after that Ben Tench ep, and it's probably a good thing. Garlin's podcast had the greatest dynamic range of anything I listened to. You could get 'The Chris Farley Show' version of Garlin on any episode.

Not proud of it, but I actually used to listen to Carolla's podcast. Before it became this insufferable, hateful thing it was often a really enjoyable listen; usually two sharp, funny people having substantial conversations about life, success and happiness. Garlin's appearance on that show five years ago or so was really hilarious.

WTF can be compelling as hell when he clicks into lockgroove with a guest and they just go, as I mentioned upthread a few years ago. Like the Michael Keaton ep, or surprising moments when Jay Mohr is on and they obsess over classic Hollywood for a while

Kevin Allison's telling of how The State finally dissolved may be common knowledge, but it's the first time I ever heard the stories before. Like, lol @ them for jumping to CBS after MTV had offered them five more seasons and were about to be in 25M more homes. They ruined themselves!

I remember the live one with Jeff Tambor as having some real laugh out loud moments.

In the Katz and Tambour interviews you could tell Maron was annoyed by all the jokes

of course it's 70% about Maron talking about being intimidated that he doesn't know enoguh about SY, art, Branca, etc.

It seems weirdly truncated too--following Gordon's career only up until she meets Thurston and then jumping to the tour with Neil Young

I thought it was great, partly because I'd feared it would be a disaster.

I thought the Joe Swanberg ep was pretty good

it was ok to listen to but marc was so enamored with the fella
