Imagine your favorite grocery store. Now imagine that store painted the colors of a Mexican blanket, blaring Mariachi music over the loudspeaker and the smell of barbeque chicken cooking in the parking lot. You can get a taco. You can get a churro. You can get a 3 pack of Modelo tallboys (Never have I ever seen such an item!). All that for a price that's poquito.

It's the little things. This grocery store is clean. The quality of items is excellent and the selection is as big as the Yucatan peninsula.

Annie G. brought me here recently because she's quite literally obsessed with MP. My favorite memory is being in line at the check out, hearing a muffled announcement in Spanish over the store PA and then having the cashiers cheer and shake tin cans with Mexican beans in them. They were celebrating something. What it was, I'm not sure.

What I am sure of is that this is a great grocery store.

Tbh I want to go to that grocery store now.

Sometimes I wonder what I'm doing with my life. And then I go to the Planned Parenthood in the Eastmont Mall and realize I'm doing ok.

These are the things I saw while I was getting medical treatment for a UTI:
1) A gay, potentially homeless man walked in and rudely asked for some condoms. He was on his cell phone and eating Cup Noodles.
2) The girl sitting next to me was on her cell phone and talking about how she needed emergency contraception because she got, "soooo fucked up last night!" It was a Tuesday morning.
3) My consultation with the nurse got interrupted because the Oakland Police Department needed to talk to her about the homicide of a girl that had recently been a patient.

Kind of a daunting experience for a Tuesday morning before work. But it was nice to feel like I was getting mental gold stars from the nurse when I told him that I've never given birth or been pregnant. It's sometimes nice to have a false sense of hope for oneself.

I need to not look at Yelp ever. You can't help but violate the number one internet rule "don't look at the comments."

A Chinese restaurant would not normally be a place where I would eat. I did that in the 1970’s. However, I was taken here by somebody who likes Chinese food.

#wedon'tnegotiatewithyelpers should be trending

i got a spammy email today that had this buried at the bottom of it:

I came here with with my boyfriend and 4 friends last month for my birthday and i must say, it was one of the best meals i have ever had!

The place was bumpin when we got there, full to the door on a Sunday evening, which for me is not a bad thing, but a great sign and made my group that much more excited. The staff was great throughout the whole experience. They were very accommodating on the phone when adjusting our reservation and polite during the wait when we arrived. Our server was very knowledgeable and attentive. Knowing it was a bday, she was thoughtful enough to leave the drink menu on the table ;), she informed us of all the specials (of which there are many given that everything is so fresh!) and our friend chose to start with chicharrons. It arrived promptly at the table, piping hot from the fryer and still crackling with a side of Parmesan foam. The highlight would have to be the cheese foam, because none of my party had tried anything like it and it was very exciting to our taste buds. We were all very happy with our entrees, I had the cod on chorizo lentils, and it blew my mind.69e17e3fb3305bd21c3277eca43eca2a

My bf lost his phone in the park on the weekend and (thankfully) it ended up dropped off at the local copshop. I was looking up their phone number online and I came across... a Yelp review for the police station.

TBH it was pretty funny.
For someone who considers herself such an upstanding citizen, I've made a few trips here over the years. If it wasn't being hit by cars on Royal Parade it was reporting my neighbour for playing ear-grinding techno at all hours, but the best one was this:

I used to live with this crazy Landmark lesbian, whose new insane girlfriend moved into our house, with all her furniture, two weeks after they got together. She'd stomp in at midnight and stomp out again at 6am, would loudly counsel other people how to live their lives (part of their cult, as it turned out) and in short was one of the most ghastly people I've ever met. She went even more nuts when I asked her to leave and accused me of wanting to kill her cat (which I had been looking after cause of aforementioned weird hours) and reckoned she reported me to the cops. What the?!

The Brunswick coppers were good about that too - they assured me it was all hot air, and kindly explained the legalities if I changed the locks and threw her out (she left of her own free will, thank god). Such wondrous memories!

It's open 24 hours, and they're very burly, straightforward and The Bill-like in their manner, as coppers should be.

two weeks pass...

My former SO got his bum waxed here.

(If we meet at a Yelp + 1 event don't tell him you read this review!)

He has an Amazon rainforest growing around and out of his ass. I say that lovingly. He's not the only guy who requires a lawnmower to groom that area. I'm looking at you, dear male reader or girlfriend of such.

I made an appointment for Saturday afternoon. It was easy breezy. Our esthetician was Rosie. If you prefer a male esthetician, they have one available too.

Everyone's super nice at WMS. Rosie was really great at making my SO feel comfortable and relaxed. It was his first time getting waxed. She applied a numbing solution first. We talked about how 40 Year Old Virgin wax scene makes waxing seem worse than it really is. (I've been waxed before and it really doesn't hurt that much!)

Rosie was quick, efficient, and thorough. She was also really sweet and charming. My SO was amazed by the results. There was some discomfort, but that's normal. He was really happy by his "bald ass" (that's what he calls it). He was prancing and skipping around like a pony.

When he was done, he got a beer. Yup, he was very happy.

The cost was VERY reasonable and the results last for weeks. I highly recommend Wax Man Spa for your waxing needs, whether you're guy or gal. Julio, the owner, is a sweetheart too!

I'm just happy that I don't have to see a hairy gorilla butt every day.

I'm sure this is confirmation bias or something but it seems like whenever business owners decide to GET REAL with Yelpers or whatever, it's usually women they decide to publicly shame, cf first comment on that article.

LOL, no.

I have some compassion for these ladies tho because in a sense they have merely gotten swept up into the current foodie frenzy, the very frenzy that allows this guy's place to exist and make so much money and enjoy such a high profile. Such behavior is inevitable in a world where eating certain things and or at certain places are hailed as peak life experiences or even just key daily or weekly experiences that must be reported to their peers in order to seem legit depending on the standards of the community they hang out in....

Ok...let me start off with this, I love eating at HOT PHO to be honest it's the best place to eat pho,I go to this place all the time, maybe 2-3 times a week. The down fall about this place is 1 particular waiter there, he is the only guy/kid that works there. Normally it's just girls. Every time I go there and he is there,my order always always gets messed up!!! I mean every time!! I order iced coffee he brings me back a durian bubble tea...let's keep in mind he written my order down. So we was waiting for about 20 mins now and their were customers coming after us that was getting their food before us. So we went to ask what happen and he tells me he forgot to give the order to the cook OMG!!!!!I guess he didn't bother to notice that we was just sitting for about 20 mins drinking water...like we went there to hang out and drink water...I'm sorry to say but I had to give him a piece of my mind. I told him that he is very DUMB every time I come in here and you take my order you always mess up my order. Sorry to say but I just can't believe, believe how DUMB this dang guy is.. SO THE NEXT TIME I EAT THERE AND HE IS THERE THE DUMB ASS IS NOT TAKING MY ORDER YOU RETARD!!!! Oh and 1 more thing, he brings us out a plate with the veggies and asks me if I order pho lmao...YEAH DUMBO YOU TOOK MY ORDER!!!!

Listed in Pho sho!, Don't even give it a try

I won't go back. Atmosphere is sketchy. Not a great locale being next to a gas station. But, most importantly, the food wasn't good. Classic example of "dishwater" pho broth (pretty self explanatory, right? broth that tastes like dish water). Thin, lacking of depth, flavor. Just thinking about the night we were there turns my stomach a little.
