i do think 808s is the most genuinely brave and weirdest album of kanye's career, way more than any of the ART ART ART I AM AN ARTIST stuff he's done since

eh 808s was also the peak of his POP ART period, though. for me the part of the "Heartless" video where a rotoscope animation Kanye emotes in front of portraits of Jetsons characters always represented the pitiful nadir of his ambitions as an aesthete.

i dunno, i found those portraits of jane, judy and rosie to be a such a bold, unique way to cop to one's madonna-whore-robocop complex

808s is the most cohesive album, it's definitely something you buy into or leave on the shelf, no real singles or w/e thoughhadn't thought about it, but is it the only Kanye album with no Jay Z content?― mh, Thursday, January 29, 2015 2:59 PM (Yesterday) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

808s had some of Kanye's most successful commercial hit singles though.

I feel like "people just aren't aware of his history" is not a legit move wrt Kanye West

like from the faux-backpacker humbrag schtick of college dropout onwards his whole career is based around being deliberately past-negating with each big record
