lol we've had this debate on here before i already pointed to the tweets of radio djs talking about how PDs refused to play chicago artists bc of the 'controversy' over violence, it's no conspiracy or secret

just like they stopped playing Bobby Shmurda and T.I. records the moment they caught weapons charges

New York and Atlanta werent caught up in the media hype about a "violence epidemic"

people have constantly tried to use controversy to suppress the commercial success of gangsta rap for 25 years, i supposed it's possible that it actually worked once

those kinds of from-the-block organic viral videos weren't taking off before chicago's stuff broke through in quite the same way, Shmurda got a deal off rip & Epic capitalized immediately, clearly benefitted from what happened in chicago. i don't think it was inorganic or anything. Like ... "Dont Like" was out in spring 2012 but didnt end up radio until 'ye remixed it, 'love sosa' came out in fall but didn't get a radio push until spring. 'hot' though was channeled straight to radio nationally

like i could see it popping up on shazam in Los Angeles w/in days of it getting posted on blogs, definitely didn't work like that for any of these earlier artists

part of the reason i think ppl latched on to herb & bibby (even though herb for ex still seems to be involved in street shit) is bc they werent as tied to beefs w/ 300/600/OTF

is it possible Epic is just a better label than Interscope to sign to these days? Interscope only released i think 2 rap albums in 2014 (Schoolboy and the Shady comp).

i know yr on this quest to prove that no one cares about chicago and chicago doesnt matter but come the fuck on

it was the biggest major label deal for a new artist in YEARS ... it was not a minor thing ... and his price only got that high bc a label couldn't get to him before the general public did ... which is what the "300" label is now concerned with fixing

So... the new new conspiracy is actually signing rappers before they manage to get famous on their own and start costing labels money? Devious.
