Boy, does that make you not want to hear the music. Imagine: the sonic equivalent of stained brown paper and forgotten takeout coffee going moldy in a dingy van!

I love that track, it's on https://worthopedia.s3.amazonaws.com/images/thumbnails/360/1211/10/360_e337fa510a1cd5eeb2151df676466eb3.jpg along with Kraftwerk's "Ruckzeug", a bit of comedy basically.

...and The Wheel. They also had albums called both Collision Course and Comin' Right At Ya, and would in later decades release Western Standard Time, The Wheel Keeps on Rollin', Merry Texas Christmas, Y'All (and belated followup Santa Loves to Boogie), Ride With Bob, Remembers the Alamo, Willie and the Wheel (with Willie Nelson), and, I swear to God, Reinventing the Wheel.

The Christmas albums also remind me that I learned today that Donnie "Ah! Leah" Iris would, in 2010, release his first Christmas album, Ah! Leluiah!

Which apparently two of my cousins (both teens at the time) attended the recording concerts for (free admission announced over the radio). I think it was there that they discovered one of the members of the band lived across the street from them.

Re: Greg Kign, he sure did his best to keep this tradition alive throughout the 80s. Observe:

1978 Next of Kihn
1981 Rockihnroll (as Greg Kihn Band)
1982 Kihntinued (as Greg Kihn Band)
1983 Kihnspiracy (as Greg Kihn Band)
1984 Kihntagious (as Greg Kihn Band)
1985 Citizen Kihn
1989 Kihnsolidation: The Best of Greg Kihn
1992 Kihn of Hearts

That shit right there is precedented. (cryptosicko), Monday, 2 February 2015 13:33 (nine years ago) link

"Initial Success" might be the most 1980 cover I've ever seen in my life. The lighting, the font, everything. Guy could have easily stepped in as a fill-in for the mannequin on Today's Special, or Slim Goodbody for that matter.

B. A. Robertson did have a 70s pre-fame album called 'Wringing Applause' which is maybe more in keeping with this thread

i feel like the 70s is the sweet spot but i don't want to not see truly terrible album titles just because they happen to be from 1968 or 1982

There's definitely a "long 70s" that could be marked out precisely by the sensibility that informs these album covers.
