Even more objectionable, Bernie Taupin's in the background.

The Counts - "What's Up Front That - Counts"

This is such a dope record though

man alive, Wednesday, 24 December 2014 05:10 (nine years ago) link

Even more objectionable, Bernie Taupin's in the background.

Was wondering about that, then looked closer and saw it was originally released on Elton & Bernie's vanity label, The Rocket Record Company.

re: the Counts, it looked promising, maybe I'll stop back at the shop and grab it if it's cheap.

Joe Cocker: Luxury You Can Afford

Don A Henley And Get Over It (C. Grisso/McCain), Wednesday, 24 December 2014 05:53 (nine years ago) link

We need to see the open gatefold to see the extent of Caravan's 'joke'

Special circle of hell for gatefold punchline "jokes," between that and Jo Jo Gunne and "Did He Fall..." it's just an awful cavalcade of failure.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 24 December 2014 06:59 (nine years ago) link

Hudson Brothers seems like it's going for a live-action version of one of these: post movie posters done in a busy/claustrophobic caricature style from the 70s and 80s - lookit all these wacky characters! It's a mad, mad, mad, mad album! But you just can't convey the same density of little heads in this format. And yeah, uh, the Klansman. No thanks.

cover isn't in the vein but "Whoa, Nellie!" by Nellie Furtado is kind of in this zone, saw it at at secondhand store the other day

Wu-Tang Clannad (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 31 December 2014 18:09 (nine years ago) link

man though dr casino I'm listening to that Phil Everly solo stuff right now and it's pretty nice!

The Complainte of Ray Tabano, Wednesday, 31 December 2014 18:38 (nine years ago) link

hahaha i remember lolling at that Furtado title at the time...surely couldn't have been her idea, ugh.

If I were to check out only one Phil Everly solo record above, which should it be? "Phil's Diner" is the most appealing I gotta say...just a nice guy on a road trip getting a kick out of seeing his name on a sign...

Mr. Poppy, of course, is Terry Jacks, who would later look back on his seedier days as so many seasons in the sun.

ST11261 (1974) was the sixth album released by Brewer & Shipley.

The album's title refers to its Capitol Records catalog number, a device previously used by Peter, Paul & Mary (Album 1700, 1967), and which would later be used for albums released by Dave Davies (AFL1-3603, 1980) and Yes (90125, 1983).

This predates the '70s by a few months, and is a pretty good record, but it still belongs on this thread
