I'm more likely to listen to a Cardiacs album tbh.

The Counts - "What's Up Front That - Counts"

Phil Everly - Mystic Line (1975)

None of these seem egregiously of this thread, but given how superfluous a Phil Everly solo career already seems to me, they're kinda tickling me.

These are terrible enough to rate inclusion. I certainly almost choked on my lunch.

feel like there should be a top ten groan-worthy titles. That one and the Caravan would make my list.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/74/Acquiring_the_Taste_front_cover.jpg

Of course, 'Acquiring the Taste' is not in and of itself an outright horrible title, but when coupled a cover depicting the thinnest of thinly veiled allusions to salad tossing it adds up to a true prog grossout as only could have been produced in the 70s.

Prog, why you so nasty?

Don A Henley And Get Over It (C. Grisso/McCain), Sunday, 21 December 2014 23:52 (nine years ago) link

ok that is super grossout

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 22 December 2014 00:30 (nine years ago) link

refuse to believe that is caravan's 1st appearance here

tl;dr, gukbar, morbis detrius (wins), Monday, 22 December 2014 00:39 (nine years ago) link

I put the prog titles in a whole different group from most of what we've seen in this thread.

The album cover has some innuendo in that it is made to look like a tongue licking an anus. However, when opened completely, it is actually a tongue licking a peach.

eddie harris - i'm tired of driving

LIKE If you are against racism (omar little), Monday, 22 December 2014 01:45 (nine years ago) link

so many of these titles are just things your parents say

LIKE If you are against racism (omar little), Monday, 22 December 2014 01:46 (nine years ago) link

Gentle Giant's album concepts improved remarkably when they moved on from peach licking to extremely mundane stuff like "whatever happened to our buddies in school?" and "what if we did a whole album about interviews?" Plus the great Watergate record & the failed relationships record.

x-post --- I was trying and failing to post a pic of Stiller & Meara's comedy album with the title "Laugh When You Want." Are they saying we can play this "comedy album" anytime we want? An adventure like this is unheard of in the 20th century.

Vic Perry, Monday, 22 December 2014 01:49 (nine years ago) link

you can laugh when you want to. you can leave your friends behind.

haha i love these explanations as if ppl go around licking peaches all the time..

phil everly cover a precursor to an 80s variant of these, which I imagine has been posted?

the drops of drool on the gentle giant are really what makes it gross imo

Even more objectionable, Bernie Taupin's in the background.

This is such a dope record though

Even more objectionable, Bernie Taupin's in the background.

Was wondering about that, then looked closer and saw it was originally released on Elton & Bernie's vanity label, The Rocket Record Company.

Joe Cocker: Luxury You Can Afford

Don A Henley And Get Over It (C. Grisso/McCain), Wednesday, 24 December 2014 05:53 (nine years ago) link

We need to see the open gatefold to see the extent of Caravan's 'joke'

Special circle of hell for gatefold punchline "jokes," between that and Jo Jo Gunne and "Did He Fall..." it's just an awful cavalcade of failure.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 24 December 2014 06:59 (nine years ago) link

Hudson Brothers seems like it's going for a live-action version of one of these: post movie posters done in a busy/claustrophobic caricature style from the 70s and 80s - lookit all these wacky characters! It's a mad, mad, mad, mad album! But you just can't convey the same density of little heads in this format. And yeah, uh, the Klansman. No thanks.

cover isn't in the vein but "Whoa, Nellie!" by Nellie Furtado is kind of in this zone, saw it at at secondhand store the other day

Wu-Tang Clannad (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 31 December 2014 18:09 (nine years ago) link

man though dr casino I'm listening to that Phil Everly solo stuff right now and it's pretty nice!

The Complainte of Ray Tabano, Wednesday, 31 December 2014 18:38 (nine years ago) link

hahaha i remember lolling at that Furtado title at the time...surely couldn't have been her idea, ugh.

If I were to check out only one Phil Everly solo record above, which should it be? "Phil's Diner" is the most appealing I gotta say...just a nice guy on a road trip getting a kick out of seeing his name on a sign...
