gonna take a wild guess that sentence was intended as 'a joke'

cornelius pardew (DJ Mencap), Monday, 8 December 2014 17:15 (nine years ago) link

pretty sure I can confirm that this 'joke', 'fell flat', as they say

ƋППṍӮɨ∏ğڵșěᶉᶇдM℮ (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 8 December 2014 17:25 (nine years ago) link

seeing as it was written by ian cohen, this is unsurprising, yet still highly zing-worthy

hanley ramirez ordering a pizza (slothroprhymes), Monday, 8 December 2014 17:26 (nine years ago) link

definitely was a joke, this revive is so stupid

some dude, Monday, 8 December 2014 17:27 (nine years ago) link

some dude otm. the fact that they achieved worldwide fame and massive success IS THE JOKE.

a joke that happens 20 times on the internet every day, probably, but this is p4k, so...

alpine static, Monday, 8 December 2014 18:23 (nine years ago) link

fwiw, I got the "joke", it was an incredibly awkwardly constructed joke. but it's been awhile since I've specifically had one of my posts called out as "stupid", so thanks for that, I guess.

i thought that dude from rage was the new pumpkins drummer. guess not.

billstevejim, Monday, 8 December 2014 18:54 (nine years ago) link

just for a couple of shows, with the bassist from the killers. Corgan's really into bringing in random alt-rocker weirdos now.

ƋППṍӮɨ∏ğڵșěᶉᶇдM℮ (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 8 December 2014 18:55 (nine years ago) link

Yeah, well remember Zwan?

Evan, Monday, 8 December 2014 18:55 (nine years ago) link

I wish he'd go back to those weirdos! I'd take Paz, Pajo or Sweeney over any of these dudes.

ƋППṍӮɨ∏ğڵșěᶉᶇдM℮ (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 8 December 2014 18:56 (nine years ago) link

zwan might was well have been a pumpkins album at this point.

billstevejim, Monday, 8 December 2014 18:56 (nine years ago) link

DON: Well, yeah.

Evan, Monday, 8 December 2014 19:15 (nine years ago) link

xp just to be clear we're saying a perfect circle (paz lechantin) was better than the smashing pumpkins? bc in some ways i do think that...

(assessment is otm regardless due to those other folks)

hanley ramirez ordering a pizza (slothroprhymes), Monday, 8 December 2014 19:27 (nine years ago) link

Paz not a "dude" iirc

you say tomato/i say imago (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 8 December 2014 20:35 (nine years ago) link

I'm having trouble discerning who is at fault for implying Paz is a dude here...

Evan, Monday, 8 December 2014 20:43 (nine years ago) link

i too have a distinct recollection of paz lechantin being a woman

hanley ramirez ordering a pizza (slothroprhymes), Monday, 8 December 2014 20:44 (nine years ago) link

Creepy-looking finger-sniffing guy takes out own Nice Guy psychodrama on Ed Sheeran, overreacts, calls bog-standard "why don't you fancy me?" lyrics "morally toxic", ends on predictable lecture about entitlement. And for why?

finger sniffer in the header is lou barlow

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 6 January 2015 19:05 (nine years ago) link

i dont think lou barlow wrote that (lol xps)

idk i read like 30 words of that, seemed ok

wizaerd (Lamp), Tuesday, 6 January 2015 19:06 (nine years ago) link

That's completely wrong, he is sucking his thumb.

Evan, Tuesday, 6 January 2015 19:07 (nine years ago) link

it was kinda weird when he acknowledges the dino jr. song he drug into his whole thesis was probably lou writing to mascis and not a girl

Wu-Tang Clannad (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 6 January 2015 19:07 (nine years ago) link

i really dug the philip sherburne panda bear piece, just kind of cool to see interesting media and video content integrated into the writing.

marcos, Tuesday, 6 January 2015 19:09 (nine years ago) link

xp would be willing to wager everything I own that several hundred words of of that piece wouldn't have been written if the Dinosaur Jr song had been called something else

Pair of fun gals argue about the days in a week :-) (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 6 January 2015 19:28 (nine years ago) link

Ha, oops. I didn't recognise Lou. Article is still terrible though.

Re-Make/Re-Model, Tuesday, 6 January 2015 19:34 (nine years ago) link

lol the idea of pitchfork posting huge photos of authors as the art for blog posts

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 6 January 2015 21:02 (nine years ago) link

I thought it was a new thing for 2015. Lou's rocking the thoughtful columnist look and he looks like a music critic who'd have a problem with Ed Sheeran.

guess the author

The most frequently quoted fact from Cloakroom’s bio is that they’re a trio of factory workers from Indiana. It is a nice bit of backstory that makes sense in hindsight upon hearing their minimally arranged, moderately morose and maximally loud debut LP Further Out—so long as they’re not framed as the sort of blue-collar Hoosier hero that might inspire a John Mellencamp/Bruce Springsteen collaboration. In 2015, factory work seems more like a vocation for people who just somehow ended up with that job, because that’s what you do, I guess. But it’s also a potentially attractive situation where the repetition and physical labor can be meditative, a good way to shut off one’s mind, especially when it tries to parse how you ended up as a factory worker in 2015.

irony is 3rd shift factory workers still make about 50x what you'd make if you spent an equal amount of time writing pfork reviews
