Why is casual racism/sexism more accepted in video games than other forms of media (these days)?

as i mentioned a bit upthread, that amazing video of his was at least partially funded by the canadian government - a stirring testament to his skills as an entrepreneur

I keep seeing that video and it looking like a still from some really bad backstreet boys fan video or something and being curious but just not wanting to give them the views. Anyone want to summarize it? I'm guessing the guy in the middle spouts a bunch of MRA stuff and the guys behind him chip in from time to time.

davis aurini has written a novel and it's free from Amazon for kindle. I think it might be fallout fan-fiction cuz he thanks the no mutants allowed board. also tucker max :(

http://www.amazon.co.uk/As-Walk-These-Broken-Roads/dp/1480121827

Out of the irradiated wastes comes a soldier. On the far edge of the trade routes, in a small farming community, there lives a mechanic. Two men from a previous era, surviving through steel and cunning in a world of degenerated philosophy; a world where the old tech is treated with savage, animistic worship. A storm is coming. When civilization is scattered and broken, what is a man supposed to do? How is a man supposed to live?

bizarro gazzara, Monday, 17 November 2014 19:47 (nine years ago) link

oh wait, it's only free for kindle unlimited customers :(

an Amazon reviewer picks out a choice passage:

Aurini employs his share of poetic phrasing, as well. Very tasteful. Take this, near the end of the book: "The great civilisation, laid out like a blueprint, with distribution lines of different colours for each product and service. Little numbers listed the frequencies and speed of each branch of the main trunk, a great logistical machine keeping millions clothed, fed, and happy. Then an atomic spark had burst in the heart, and quickening into poison along the veins."

so... civilisation was a blueprint tree-machine with a human circulatory system taken out by a poisonous spark? hmm

aurini btw is the only redpill youtuber i've been allowing myself to watch during this whole thing cuz he's the only one i can't resist, his skulls (ornamental and no), his jumpy don draper poses, but had not yet seen his website. this line is some o.g. fascism:

Twist: the actions of these SJWs are so insanely destructive and self-defeating that it’s hard to believe that they exist... that’s because they are insane. When you’re motivated by envy, destructiveness is all you know.

This whole thing is the most extreme example of conformation bias I am aware of but I guess unfortunately it means it's probably completely prevalent all over the place 😞

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Tuesday, 18 November 2014 21:55 (nine years ago) link

I watched that clip of Dr Taylor’s apology – at the moment of his supreme professional triumph – and I felt the red mist come down. It was like something from the show trials of Stalin, or from the sobbing testimony of the enemies of Kim Il-sung, before they were taken away and shot. It was like a scene from Mao’s cultural revolution when weeping intellectuals were forced to confess their crimes against the people.

I mean, on the one hand this is sort of true in the broadest, most-credibility-stretching way but on the other hand, did you not actually see the shirt in question?

the farakhan of gg (DJP), Tuesday, 18 November 2014 21:58 (nine years ago) link

As for the design of the garment, I have studied it as closely as the photos will allow, and I can’t see what all the fuss is about. I suppose there are women with long flowing hair and a certain amount of décolletage. But let’s not mince our words: there are no nipples; there are no buttocks; there is not even an exposed midriff, as far as I can see.

anonanon, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 21:59 (nine years ago) link

anonanon, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 21:59 (nine years ago) link

I think his critics should go to the National Gallery and look at the Rokeby Venus by Velázquez. Or look at the stuff by Rubens. Are we saying that these glorious images should be torn from the walls?

he's playing to his core constituency in its core paper, the message is probably about rowing back a ways from David Cameron's perceived political correctness, just letting the faithful know there'll be none of this SJW shit once Boris is in charge

Stim McRaw (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 18 November 2014 22:02 (nine years ago) link

This is clearly political correctness gone mad -- it used to be perfectly acceptable, normal and commonplace to wear sexy lady print shirts on national television.

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Tuesday, 18 November 2014 22:04 (nine years ago) link

There must be room in our world for eccentricity, even if it offends the prudes, and room for the vague other-worldliness that often goes with genius. Dr Taylor deserves the applause of our country, and those who bash him should hang their own heads and apologise.

pro tip: he's not really talking about Taylor at the end here

Stim McRaw (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 18 November 2014 22:04 (nine years ago) link

It’s the hypocrisy of it all that irritates me. Here is Kim Kardashian – a heroine and idol to some members of my family – deciding to bust out all over the place, and good for her. No one seeks to engulf her in a tweetstorm of rage. But why is she held to be noble and pure, while Dr Taylor is attacked for being vulgar and tasteless?

lol come on now, at least try with your trolling

the farakhan of gg (DJP), Tuesday, 18 November 2014 22:07 (nine years ago) link

I'm all in favor of a casual workplace and wearing clothing that you feel comfortable in, but jesus christ have some decorum if you're going to be on tv
