i could do without his deep breathy rambling over the preponderance of what he plays but i like a LOT of what he plays which makes up for it

Monki is on the list. What sort of wage bill must Radio 1 have I wonder?

I mean, do they need that many DJs that no-one listens to?

R. Stornoway (Tom D.), Saturday, 15 November 2014 16:27 (nine years ago) link

ah so she is!

wage bill is lower than it has been in some time. r1/1x recently shedded quite a few DJs - benga, robbo ranx, mike davies, crissy criss, etc etc

and the "big beasts" of r1 like westwood and moyles are now long gone

does anyone what % of the audience for the late night djs are listening by iplayer rather than live? I listen to monki, cameo, dj edu and b.traits fairly regularly but to be honest I only have a vague idea of when their shows are actually broadcast

will probably vote for Annie Nightingale though I don't really listen to her as often as some of the others here

miniscule

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 15 November 2014 20:19 (nine years ago) link

it is slightly larger than for daytime, admittedly, but catch-up listening is a tiny percentage of radio listening across the board

yeah, i don't

bb deserves full credit as being a broadcaster that is fully representative of his sizable audience - no doubting he is the relevant man for the times from r1's pov - but in my grizzled opinion that audience is just fuckin feeble and woefully underchallenged

as the inheritor spiritual and functional of the gilles p worldwide and hobbs breezeblock legacies (which did come to their natural ends tbf) he has only leached away the life and drive from both

not sure about this, otherwise why would he be on in the dead of night?

as for the present and future of 1X i sincerely hope you're wrong :(

Zane Lowe (born Alexander Zane Reid Lowe on 7 August 1973), also known as "Zipper", is a radio DJ, record producer, and television presenter.

is Zane Lowe really also known as 'Zipper' or is someone just trolling his wikipedia page

soref, Saturday, 15 November 2014 21:55 (nine years ago) link

the talk section also has a discussion of a (since removed) passage saying he had been charged with inciting racial hatred in 2007 which does not seem to be the case

soref, Saturday, 15 November 2014 21:59 (nine years ago) link

the hatred he incites is wide-ranging, indiscriminate and multfaceted afaict

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 15 November 2014 22:03 (nine years ago) link

I didn't even realise he was still on R1 to be honest, I only really remember him when he does the voiceover on a TV ad for a dreadful album

haha he plays nocturnal mood music! who would have him on any earlier!!

1x will live as radio 1.1 but in terms of the station's original ethos i honestly feel austin done threw the baby out with the bathwater this time round, and now the competition (albeit localised) is only getting bolder and more numerous. branding 101 lesson here is pivot don't jump
