I think he got good when he started producing for other people. I hated when he was making brostep.

he's an amazing house producer imo

his dubstep flavors are also wild as shit and hold up well i think

I was mainly speaking when he started, he got good fast he learned and started absorbing a lot of tricks from other producers. He’s highly professional imho.

Also it helped that he was very young when he started.

earlier i saw a clip on twitter of four tet dropping a beast at a random time in his set,
and fred again just laughing his socks off while was keiran grinning from ear to ear.
i am loving seeing the three of them having an absolute blast together.

i saw someone snark about fred again being a rich twat on twitter but don't know what that's about

speaking of fred again, does anyone fuck with his new album? i bought a few tracks but can't say i've cottoned on to them, a little too subdued and saccharine for my needs.

I dont like fred again creatively at all, it feels very MOR

like you know that feeling where you're surrounded by ppl getting something and its not hitting you emotionally at all, but it seems to hit everyone else ? thats how I feel listening to him. like skrillex, even when I was unsure if I totally 'got it' still made me 'feel things'

second album is out now

Too much skrillex and I’m too old for it so I’ll have to find a time and mood to listen to this but from what I sampled 3AM sounded good.

I still haven’t heard them completely but I assume this is more the “pop radio” album?

second album is very pop, albeit via the skrillex production.
i love his garage stuff.
also, pretty sure that 'dont get too close' is a take on lil dicky.
there is a song in one of the episodes where lil dicky is showing his g/f re autotune/vocals,
and its totally the same as this skrillex track.

for all the chaos re skrillex, he makes grooves that is fun.
my eldest lad has always been properly into the dubstep scene,
goes to nights that are all about 140 and knows stuff.
he saw a skrillex dj set a few years back and loved every minute of it.
'it was all massive drops and brostep, but damn, he has skills' is how he put it.

I think you're probably right, same 'playing around with saying stuff through auto-tune over a pretty backing track' vibe.

First time Skrillex listener. Trying Quest for Fire rn. These "songs" are awfully short. There are a lot of ideas packed into a few minutes, and the pace can feel frenetic. Would be nice to let some of these tracks breathe a bit.

skrillex is machine tooled for party kids who need something new to happen at least every four measures. tiesto has been doing shorter club tracks with charli xcx, black eyed peas, etc., on the same tip. i used to grumble about this trend because i love getting lost in a groove and because sometimes i need an extra minute or two to find what to play next, but the lack of dead time in these sub-3-minute blasts really helps when you're trying to energize a dance floor.

I've had "Butterflies" with Four Tet constantly on repeat since it dropped.

holy crap - just saw some recent photos of Sonny Moore and he looks way different since he's cut his hair. Looks almost like Shia LeBeouf and it's freakin me out

Ah yeah I see that now, but perhaps it's the facial hair and coupled with him tying it back now. Also the eyes are strikingly similar too - and this was obscured by Sonny's previous use of the thick rimmed glasses. Apparently Shia has long hair too now?

His DJ presence is just so different now with this look than back in the day when his boyish looks with his hair down exuded this enthusiasm and giddiness. I guess I'm just expressing a personal bias against his current look, as it reminds me of someone who is way douchier, which is shitty, so I'll shuffle off now...

he's 35 years old, grinning, jumping up & down and dancing on top of the decks in his shorts, waving and cheering his collaborators, doing call-and-response moves with the crowd... plenty of boyish enthusiasm on display imo :)
