Ha ha Do you guys want to rock tonight or hang out in the bowling alley parking lot?

Rocking sounds cool, I guess

you walk on the street, grab the rock (President Keyes), Sunday, 2 November 2014 14:33 (nine years ago) link

Sounds pretty passive aggressive.

"But yesterday you said you didn't want to rock!"

"Look, really, it's fine; I don't mind rockin' tonight."

Joe Walsh There Goes the Neighborhood is almost the ideal of this genre of album titling

There Goes Ryan's Scion (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Sunday, 2 November 2014 19:03 (nine years ago) link

Joe was the master. He rode that schtick into the late 80s:

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Sunday, 2 November 2014 19:07 (nine years ago) link

Walsh also embodies the "Hey here's my album, whaddya want from me?" rueful shrug and grin that is implied by all these titles, his whole persona is sort of based on this aethestic

There Goes Ryan's Scion (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Sunday, 2 November 2014 19:09 (nine years ago) link

haha Tarfumes you posted that same cover last summer!

still cracks me up though, what a joker that joe is!

Doctor Casino, Sunday, 2 November 2014 19:30 (nine years ago) link

Whoops, haha yeah, I thought it might've already been posted.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Sunday, 2 November 2014 19:46 (nine years ago) link

Okay, who remembers seeing this stuff in the record stores and feeling sorry for these people. When those covers are 12" x 12" and sitting in the bins while Bee Gees albums cover the walls, you just feel sad and angry and go, "what's up with that?"

Threat Assessment Division (I M Losted), Sunday, 2 November 2014 19:54 (nine years ago) link

As a kid I would have wanted those Joe Walsh albums, but paper routes don't pay enough.

Threat Assessment Division (I M Losted), Sunday, 2 November 2014 19:56 (nine years ago) link

The thing with Joe Walsh was, when he didn't make his album covers into stupid jokes, you got sub-Uriah Heep stuff like this:

Should be a picture of him smoking a joint in a confessional.

STOP CLONING ABOUT

Doctor Casino, Sunday, 2 November 2014 21:31 (nine years ago) link

Record stores should have had a section for "cocaine damage". Or music back then should have all been classified by drug / muse.

VIOLINSKI

Stylus as coke spoon is nice touch

There Goes Ryan's Scion (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Sunday, 2 November 2014 23:51 (nine years ago) link

a separate thread, but i'm guessing that quotes as titles -- eg "give us a wink!" -- are universally terrible?

mookieproof, Sunday, 2 November 2014 23:54 (nine years ago) link

three things:

that BLT album seems from the lineup like it could be really good..... anyone heard it?

Bunk Dogger cover really is superb

You Bought It You Name It might be the crystalized essence of H70sATLIGMOATD......

... did that work?

R. Stornoway (Tom D.), Monday, 3 November 2014 13:50 (nine years ago) link

"Who Are Thoes Guys?" is perfect, though if it had quotation marks or a pointless bit of emphasis (a la Commander Cody) it'd pretty much have the genre locked up.

Doctor Casino, Monday, 3 November 2014 14:22 (nine years ago) link

Doesn't belong on this thread because (I think) this is some sort of post punk thing, but for years I thought had imagined this album title but there it is, large as life.

R. Stornoway (Tom D.), Monday, 3 November 2014 15:53 (nine years ago) link

Atomic Rooster, I haven't heard that but the stuff I have is fucking awesome. like super doomy proto metal organ rock
