Yeah, a lot of this stuff is straight ressentiment on the level of NRO-zealotry. I can't remember if Frank Schaeffer or whoever coined the term but we're looking at another case of people being "victimized by modernity." Shit has changed and they're just beginning to twig that everything ain't what it was.

Michel Houellebecq wrote that HP Lovecraft had to "fail at life" before he could start churning out weird horror of a cosmic scope, but these guys don't exhibit jackshit for creative ability to filter or sublimate all that internal discontent into anything other than increasingly graphic threats. I don't necessarily think that in 20 years they'll all be those militia types who move to N.Idaho and broadcast on shortwave radio, but I'm damnsure plenty will have shared ideological & narrative aspects.

Like w/r/t the advertisers, taking a form letter and spamming it to dozens of advertisers and being good at finding email contacts / copying and pasting and changing names efficiently

The positive feedback loop that happens when Intel bows out of Gamasutra or when Gawker's advertisers get shook and #gamergaters think yes, I helped make that happen

Not too different than doing a raid in WoW maybe and teaming up on a boss

It's interesting to reread 'Backlash' by Faldui, as I did today. So much of this stuff has been there for a long time. There's a coincidentally appropriate quote from Margaret Mead in the book, that stood out for me "Maleness in America is not absolutely defined; it has to be kept and reearned every day, and one essential element in the definition is beating women in every game that both sexes play."

I kind of wanted to quote a part of it to people, but the significant paragraph became a significant page became a significant chapter.

it's funny I watched the old Swedish film I Am Curious (Yellow) the other night and in some parts the protagonist goes around interview (what appears to be) real ppl on the streets about social justice and stuff, and asks about women's equality with men and some a-hole dude says something like "well already it's happened, women are dominant in society now" or something and that was in 68
