what advantage does chip and sig have over just sig?

also what is the two pins thing? i have one pin and its the same whether i'm at the 'ole in the wall getting out my dickvandollars or i'm authorising a payment for my blood sossidge with a merchant. where does the second pin come into it?

Chip is more secure than a stripe I think

Second pin = implication you might have to remember more than just your debit card pin (your chip credit cards would all have a pin too) but I guess you could go with one pin for everything

I used Apple Pay to pay for some on-phone shit today and it almost felt too easy to spend money, which I think is the idea

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Thursday, 23 October 2014 03:39 (nine years ago) link

how about just do one pin, that is more secure than a signature box you could literally draw a picture of your dick in and no one would ever complain

socki (s1ocki), Thursday, 23 October 2014 13:36 (nine years ago) link

would gladly sign up for a chip-and-dick-drawing system

do ppl really put lunches, metrocards, etc on their credit cards? i use my debit card for everything, so only one PIN to remember innit

of course with contactless there's no PIN required

Well, this is officially the first iPhone I have broken! Don't drop it screen-down directly on a rock. It's usable but I have AppleCare plus sooo a new one is in my future. Well, as soon as I'm near a Apple Store, which could take a few days.

⌘-B (mh), Thursday, 23 October 2014 18:56 (nine years ago) link

rip

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 October 2014 18:57 (nine years ago) link

You're dropping it screen-down on a rock wrong.

dan selzer, Thursday, 23 October 2014 19:17 (nine years ago) link

sorry.

If you have a CC that generates frequent flyers miles, then hell yes. I pay just about everything (utilities, groceries, everything except my CC bill) with a CC and have generated enough miles in two years for three free round trip tickets to NYC and another to Seattle.

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 23 October 2014 19:32 (nine years ago) link

the whole cash back thing is a huge incentive to use CC, since you're gonna spend that money anyway, might as well get the piddly 1% or whatever refund

Nhex, Thursday, 23 October 2014 19:40 (nine years ago) link

A few years ago my friends and I started a bank. When we began technical integration with our card processor, I asked to receive signatures (my coworker thought it’d be neat to display them alongside your transactions). I learned they never stored or even received them the network. Either the point-of-sale isn’t sending signatures over the network, our network (Visa) was dropping the signatures before they were received by our processor, or our processor received signatures but weren’t storing them. I suspect it’s a combination of the three across the networks and processors. If that’s the case, it’s rendered signatures completely useless.

lol n00b bank starting assumption dude

held a iphone 6 for the first time yday and

1) was SHOCKED it wasn't the 6+ — jesus this thing is big
2) kinda felt like what imagine android phones feel and look like?
3) seemed flimsy
4) my iphone 5 is so much nicer and compact looking and all black

socki (s1ocki), Thursday, 23 October 2014 20:39 (nine years ago) link

I do think the look of the iphone vs Samsung phones have kind of converged, and I wish they were a little more distinguishable

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Thursday, 23 October 2014 20:46 (nine years ago) link

i've handled a 6 and 6+ now and am far far more happy with my 5s at the moment

Steve 'n' Seagulls and Flock of Van Dammes (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 23 October 2014 20:48 (nine years ago) link

apple heading downhill :(

the late great, Thursday, 23 October 2014 20:48 (nine years ago) link

nah, doubt it. The 6 is great.

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Thursday, 23 October 2014 20:49 (nine years ago) link

Apple's gonna have an extremely reliable revenue stream in the iPhone for probably at least the next 5 years I wouldn't worry

, Thursday, 23 October 2014 20:53 (nine years ago) link

I think Apple Pay is gonna be a pretty big thing tbh, and as stated above I think the watch is going to be a hit too. I'm kind of scratching my head about whatever they're doing with tablets though.

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Thursday, 23 October 2014 21:01 (nine years ago) link

My wife has the 5s and I have the 6 and the only reason I could imagine preferring the former is having smaller hands.

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Thursday, 23 October 2014 21:02 (nine years ago) link

Like the thinness really does make a huge difference in adapting to the size, it becomes comfortable very quickly.

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Thursday, 23 October 2014 21:02 (nine years ago) link

iphone 6 from an aesthetic standpoint is def a huge step down, not that thats nearly the most important thing abt a phone but kinda weird from a company thats been historically so detail oriented w this stuff

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 October 2014 21:04 (nine years ago) link

Feel like when it's so big but also so thin you're just not gonna have a lot of room for aesthetic detail

, Thursday, 23 October 2014 21:06 (nine years ago) link

Like it's just a screen + laser curlicues on the metal

, Thursday, 23 October 2014 21:06 (nine years ago) link

dont have one in front of me rite now but iirc things which offended my delicate sensibilities: how it bulges out from the sides instead of gently sloping away like the early iphones/pods, the visible antena lines all over the back, the raised camera lens, generally looks like its made out of clay

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 October 2014 21:18 (nine years ago) link

the metal they used gives me no particular uplifting vibes either, whole phone feels kinda cheap, kinda baseline

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 October 2014 21:23 (nine years ago) link

Agree that the part-glass back on the 5 was a great touch

, Thursday, 23 October 2014 21:25 (nine years ago) link

4 had the glass back m8

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 October 2014 21:27 (nine years ago) link

5 also had glass on the back................... m8

, Thursday, 23 October 2014 21:28 (nine years ago) link

But yeah 4 is probably my fav iphone design (even though I never had one)

, Thursday, 23 October 2014 21:28 (nine years ago) link

oh the lil part at the top and bottom did not realize that was glass tbh

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 October 2014 21:30 (nine years ago) link

imo tho putting stuff that can shatter where its not nes is not a great idea

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 October 2014 21:30 (nine years ago) link

i like the 5 better than the 4, 4 looks a lil chunky imo, my fav ever tho is the old touch

http://i.imgur.com/MkscXri.jpg

feels so nice in the hand

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 October 2014 21:32 (nine years ago) link

obv easier to make it thin cause of not needing phone components still v dope tho

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 October 2014 21:33 (nine years ago) link

yeah iPod touch has always been the winner heft/thickness wise

Spirit of Match Game '76 (silby), Thursday, 23 October 2014 21:33 (nine years ago) link

Curved metal back of the old Touch was very nice, I had one

, Thursday, 23 October 2014 21:33 (nine years ago) link

It was stainless steel right

making the edge bevel out like that is such a cheap ass way to cram more stuff in, youre better than that apple smh

ew

mattresslessness, Thursday, 23 October 2014 21:38 (nine years ago) link

I actually liked the 4s aesthetically more than the 5/5s. The 5's proportions always looked a little funny to me.

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Thursday, 23 October 2014 21:39 (nine years ago) link

I had the white one and I liked the way the metal sides looked on the white.

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Thursday, 23 October 2014 21:40 (nine years ago) link

The curves are slightly doofy. I like the way the face looks though -- pure blackness when off, pure screen when on

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Thursday, 23 October 2014 21:44 (nine years ago) link

always been the winner heft/thickness wise

I may be overthinking this.
