yeah that's too many skus tbh, cut it back to ipad mini 3, old air, new air

Spirit of Match Game '76 (silby), Thursday, 16 October 2014 21:09 (nine years ago) link

Kind of makes me wonder if they just overproduced a couple of the models and still have a lot left? If they really need to still clear first gen iPad minis they should make it a bigger price difference from the 2 though. And honestly probably better off just quietly offering it through discount channels rather than making it part of a confusing five-tier product line.

Siracusa's review of Yosemite is up

the late great, Thursday, 16 October 2014 21:49 (nine years ago) link

I use iTunes a lot less now thanks to Spotify, but my impression is that it has gotten less and less usable.

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Thursday, 16 October 2014 22:26 (nine years ago) link

iTunes sucks so hard now it's laughable

Installed with no issues. Visual style is kind of jarring. Even though it's not that much different.

Jeff, Friday, 17 October 2014 01:48 (nine years ago) link

Continuity is working a little strange. I never know what is going to ring, my iPad/iPhone/iMac. And then I answered my iPad and it wouldn't hang up so I had to restart it.

Jeff, Friday, 17 October 2014 02:02 (nine years ago) link

Kind of afraid to upgrade to iCloud drive.

Jeff, Friday, 17 October 2014 02:05 (nine years ago) link

Don’t forget that we get 8.1 on Monday too. Which will be worth it for the iCloud Photo Library beta, but that might be it.

And Apple Pay! Excited.

Spirit of Match Game '76 (silby), Friday, 17 October 2014 02:22 (nine years ago) link

Sure. That too! (Not so useful to me right now though.)

Pixelmator for iPad is going to cost 5 bucks. Insane.

Love iTunes.

cannot get over how fucked up spotlight is now

the late great, Friday, 17 October 2014 05:00 (nine years ago) link

Clay, Friday, 17 October 2014 05:06 (nine years ago) link

anybody else experiencing lots of glitching in safari?

the late great, Friday, 17 October 2014 05:59 (nine years ago) link

i don't like this update at all!

the late great, Friday, 17 October 2014 06:01 (nine years ago) link

Not putting photos anywhere near anything Apple calls "beta"

stet, Friday, 17 October 2014 07:17 (nine years ago) link

new iTunes is butt ugly esp the red icon

Red icon probably down to feedback from users like me who are so short-sighted we kept clicking on the App Store icon for iTunes.

Twist of Caliphate (Bob Six), Friday, 17 October 2014 07:26 (nine years ago) link

Aesthetically not very impressed with this update, haven't explored the functionality though.

Twist of Caliphate (Bob Six), Friday, 17 October 2014 07:28 (nine years ago) link

Adjusting OK. If "no iTunes sidebar ever" is not mandatory, at least this feels like the best implementation of it.

MacPorts completely borked. Safari way zippier.

Elvis Telecom, Friday, 17 October 2014 07:31 (nine years ago) link

"now mandatory"

Elvis Telecom, Friday, 17 October 2014 07:31 (nine years ago) link

You're still using MacPorts? the cool kids have been using Homebrew for years man, hate to break it to you

Spirit of Match Game '76 (silby), Friday, 17 October 2014 07:33 (nine years ago) link

otoh it all loaded ok on my mid-2007 iMac and safari seems faster, and iTunes and spotify still working fine - can't complain too much about the look.

Twist of Caliphate (Bob Six), Friday, 17 October 2014 08:05 (nine years ago) link

as someone who has no "devices" (i.e. iPad, iPhone, etc.) and no interest in "the cloud" is there any especially good reason to install Yosemite on a 2009 MacBook Pro (currently running 10.6.8)?

I dunno. (amateurist), Friday, 17 October 2014 10:38 (nine years ago) link

i guess i should wait until it's been out for six months or more...

I dunno. (amateurist), Friday, 17 October 2014 10:39 (nine years ago) link

red is very unchill this is not how i think of the itunes experience

I don't use spotlight, but I can't see how it's that bad. It certainly wasn't great for me before, which is why I use Alfred.

Jeff, Friday, 17 October 2014 11:43 (nine years ago) link

just like last version if itunes, you can make it normal. Select "playlists" and it brings back the sidebar and select songs on the right and it looks like the same itunes as always.

dan selzer, Friday, 17 October 2014 12:36 (nine years ago) link

how can I change my folders from that bright blue color though?

dan selzer, Friday, 17 October 2014 12:40 (nine years ago) link

i am amazed that anyone installs a new version of the OS on opening day tbh!

socki (s1ocki), Friday, 17 October 2014 13:21 (nine years ago) link

Never had any issues doing it. Why stop now?

Jeff, Friday, 17 October 2014 13:23 (nine years ago) link

I'm still 10.6.8 at work. I updated the last one at home and have hated it ever since.

I don't want to share with my family. I don't want to share with my friends. I don't want to upload anything to a cloud. I don't want buying things online to be any easier.

Give me back my color labels.
