The girl isn't a lesbian because she dates a friend of mine last I checked.

Don't know about Moroder. I always assumed he was straight but the music, and yes the mustache, may say otherwise.

The most infamous "non-gay" is Bobby O, who is actually a raging homophobe, not bad for the hi-nrg genius who wrote "Calling All Boys" and all of Divine's hits, not to mention producing the first Pet Shop Boys sessions.

re Moroder you can't get straighter than Chicory Tip!

gay music is the best thing ever, precisely because of the gayness. as a heterobarelysexual man i feel comfortable in asserting this opinion.

i'm a sucker for disco records so absolutely agree with steve... this is one genre in whchi it is impossible to be gay enough!

But what of The Gay?

eight months pass...
Based on the music I'd say all robots from the future are not only homosexual, but also black.

Hip hop's biggest problem is its lack of gay.

What about Caushun? (the gay rapper)

Hip hop's biggest problem is its lack of gay.

I think you're correct in spirit, but that one formerly-hyped gay rapper didn't do much for me.

"Scissor Sisters are both gay and straight, no?"

This is bisexual. *rolls eyes* Sorry couldn't resist.

stevie nixed (stevie nixed), Friday, 7 January 2005 23:03 (nineteen years ago) link

OT, but when I heard 'Comfortably Numb', I thought to myself, 'Hmmm, the Scissor Sisters have been blunted by rock.'

do baby and lil wayne really kiss each other on the lips?

Some gay hip hop off the top of my head:

Deadlee is a gay rapper who wants you to "suck his gun".

Da Hawnay Troof is a bi rapper who brags about "being the number one cocksucker" (which I rather doubt)

I still haven't heard Deep Dick Collective, dunno if they are good or not.

There's an MC called Ralowe who's also supposed to be rad.

Not gay but honorarily queer moments in hip hop abound:

most flagrantly, Le Shaun's "Wide Open" a female hip hop MCs ode to, er, "pegging" young boys

Biggie's "she was so hott I'd suck her daddy's dick" line surely counts too.

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Friday, 7 January 2005 23:19 (nineteen years ago) link

That's the kind of line that makes me sad not to have children.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 7 January 2005 23:20 (nineteen years ago) link

You forgot LL Co... oh, wait.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 7 January 2005 23:20 (nineteen years ago) link

"Ladies love cool James because they can go shoe-shopping with him"

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 7 January 2005 23:21 (nineteen years ago) link

I didn't intend to imply that any one rapper has a monopoly on queerdom in hip-hop. Rather, I meant to point out that, in America at any rate, only one openly gay has been promoted in mainstream media. And he didn't sell very well.

There's also a Queen Pen song about picking up girls
