at first i was gonna scoff at the idea of We Can't Dance as a New Jersey just cuz he didn't make a follow-up with them, but if you combine Phil's solo albums with the pop genesis albums, yeah it works

we actually used But Seriously on the poll, as it's phil's new jersey if you keep the two discographies separate

MJ over Mint Condition and Right Said Fred. His best post-Thriller single. "I Love Your Smile" always seems to get a lot of love around here but it has one of the most primally annoying hooks I've ever heard.

yeah I mean this Phil/Genesis period defines New Jersey, right? No critical acclaim at all, just singles coasting on the past and a pre-Soundscan way of doing things.

Shanice
Amy Grant
Vanessa Williams
Jackson

a half brilliant list.

New Jersey-era Bon Jovi are about 1/10th as memorable as late 80s Phil

Save The Best For Last is exactly how great early 90s ballads should sound. And its one of the best of the era.

Master of Treacle, Saturday, 11 October 2014 01:33 (nine years ago) link

Amy Grant is how Vanessa Williams should sound.

Judging from Facebook the other day, Fred is now a conspiracy theorist. Not too sexy to argue that the ISIS beheading videos were faked.

just listened to the 12" version of "i can't dance." do you believe the song would be improved if the production vaguely gestured at new jack swing?

I like that this thread has made me feel okay to admit that I like "Save the Best for Last."

I believe the song would be improved if the producer vaguely gestured Phil Collins into a flaming dung heap.

I like how Right Said Fred came along and was like "Oh, Phil Collins, you think you're funny?"
