Black-and-white option in prefs is pretty pimp.

older guy i work with was complaining about the look of the latest ios a few months ago. turns out he had "invert colors" turned on in accessibility settings. i didn't know that existed until then. trippy.

That's been a feature forever in OSX and was turned on by default until recently

Seems like a bit of a pointless goof to me -- is there any good reason to use grayscale or inverted colors?

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 1 October 2014 19:36 (nine years ago) link

There's a reason it's found in the 'Accessibility' menu you insensitive loaf

Sorry, I am dumb. Colorblindness?

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 1 October 2014 19:40 (nine years ago) link

Well for inverted colors, white text on black space reduces eyestrain iirc

A contrast ratio of 3:1 is the minimum level recommended by [ISO-9241-3] and [ANSI-HFES-100-1988] for standard text and vision. The 4.5:1 ratio is used in this provision to account for the loss in contrast that results from moderately low visual acuity, congenital or acquired color deficiencies, or the loss of contrast sensitivity that typically accompanies aging.

1staethyr, Wednesday, 1 October 2014 19:46 (nine years ago) link

yeah, the ugly hi-contrast themes are very good for people with poor vision or colorblindness. Windows has always had them too

Nhex, Wednesday, 1 October 2014 19:50 (nine years ago) link

I use inverted colours for apps that don't have a night mode. And greyscale when I come over all NeXT

stet, Wednesday, 1 October 2014 20:26 (nine years ago) link

yeah, that's just the d

OTM, it really is just the d

I can find the inverted colors option (i'm running ios 7 still) but no B&W or grayscale option anywhere... what submenu are these in?

a drug by the name of WORLD WITHOUT END (Jon Lewis), Wednesday, 1 October 2014 21:40 (nine years ago) link

I have almost stopped feeling like a giant tool every time I double-touch the home button to reach a back button.

after my rant the other day about how much this thread sucks, i think it'd only be appropriate if i bring up a topic that falls in the “stupid shit” category: dock position

thoughts? i thought gruber or someone was talking about it recently. i usually have mine at the bottom of the screen, but right now it's on the right. none of that “hidden” shit or w/e atm either

lag∞n, Thursday, 2 October 2014 01:45 (nine years ago) link

But how do you post to ILX from that

, Thursday, 2 October 2014 01:46 (nine years ago) link

just hide and unhide the dock over and over

lag∞n, Thursday, 2 October 2014 01:47 (nine years ago) link

if my screen is wider than tall I put the app bar / dock / start menu on the side thx

⌘-B (mh), Thursday, 2 October 2014 02:41 (nine years ago) link

if I wrote a new ilx app with swipe to go back and all that jazz and donated profits to ilx.. hmm

siri told me that the best coffee near my office is the CapitalOne 360 cafe (which is this weird cafe inside a bank that I don't really understand). I have like 5 nu-barista cafes within spitting distance of my office, including one that partners with sight glass, two that partner with la colombe, and one that partners with counter culture.

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Thursday, 2 October 2014 02:45 (nine years ago) link

dude it feeds off bad keywords and yelp

The only query I have seen work is "I need a drink" responded to with a list of closest bars

⌘-B (mh), Thursday, 2 October 2014 02:47 (nine years ago) link

Listen, the dock is still a pile of nonsense, don't spend so much time thinking about the dock. Don't even click the dock.

Spirit of Match Game '76 (silby), Thursday, 2 October 2014 02:48 (nine years ago) link

Dock's on the right side at work. Since the only true place you can scale a window is from the southeast corner and I kept throwing documents in the trash somehow.

This was happening when I was in my 30s too.

pplains, Thursday, 2 October 2014 02:50 (nine years ago) link

luv my dock

lag∞n, Thursday, 2 October 2014 02:50 (nine years ago) link

Most worthless thing is that Downloads folder in the dock that you can't view as a folder unless you scroll down 100 miles to where it says "View as Folder". Shit, may has well just opened it from Finder in the first place.

pplains, Thursday, 2 October 2014 02:54 (nine years ago) link

i dont keep any folders in the dock just apps man

lag∞n, Thursday, 2 October 2014 02:55 (nine years ago) link

xp or you can just right click it

Nhex, Thursday, 2 October 2014 02:57 (nine years ago) link

I guess OSX lets you have some viewing options, just noticed that.

I'm so much more advanced at home than at work. Well, except for not having any cool Adobe software.

cant live w/o my photoshoppe

lag∞n, Thursday, 2 October 2014 03:00 (nine years ago) link

I've got Elements at home, and boy, what is even the point.

pplains, Thursday, 2 October 2014 03:01 (nine years ago) link

photoshop at its most raw and elemental (does not support raw)

lag∞n, Thursday, 2 October 2014 03:02 (nine years ago) link

Hey, here's an iPhone Element. It's got the numbers 1-7 on it.

pplains, Thursday, 2 October 2014 03:02 (nine years ago) link

Play all your favorite .ra's in iTunes Elements.

pplains, Thursday, 2 October 2014 03:02 (nine years ago) link

Saving a project on OS Elements is a snap. Just go to terminal, type SAVE [NAME OF PROJECT], and then retrieve it later from its new location at users/yourname/library/files/en/_1/Elements/Snap/yourfile.ra

I don't even know what I'm talking about. I just really miss the Content-Aware tugging thing sometimes when I'm at home.

pplains, Thursday, 2 October 2014 03:06 (nine years ago) link

content aware is good stuff
