KEVIN STARKE: "There was this one story that I always talk about. I would go on Saturday nights when Armando played at the Warehouse. I would go down there to watch him play and talk to him, just find out information on records. He'd always show me records when I didn't know what it was.

"Saturday night at the Warehouse was primarily a black night. There weren't too many white guys. But I remember this - he looked at me one night, and said, 'Watch this. This is the record I'm going to play and mess these guys up.' And he showed me the record: 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' by Nirvana. I'm thinking, oh, they're never going to dance to this. They're going to get pissed!

"These people lost their minds. People went fucking nuts. That guitar riff - people were dancing all crazy. That's when I kind of looked at it like, okay, never say you can only play this kind of music at this kind of a club. Never say this type of people only like this type of music. You never know. Once you've got the crowd, they're yours."

i think that 100% of disin u and house music all night long are some of the best house tracks and i just go wild when i hear them.

kstarke is the best kind of store owner, way enthusiastic and personalizes the experience of shopping there for u. I kinda get the impression he can be something of a hustler about the records sometimes but you'll also get pretty good odds of finding some gem for real cheap, i got that 'my people' eddie kendricks record for like 7 bucks there once

I visited Mr. Starke's store in February (after having purchased some stuff from him on ebay), and I have to say I completely agree that his enthusiasm and the selection were top notch. He seems to be a really genuine guy who loves what he's doing. His store is up there with Mr. Peabody as a required stop when I'm in the area.

Not really that old (2006), but I was very pleased to find, two days ago, a vinyl copy of Alexi Delano and Xpansul's Intelligence Reframed EP on Plus 8, That "Echolocation" is a doozy of track if there ever was one.

i think my favorite smooth heard track is that 'just another lonely day' by blakk society feat david hollister ...

This is one of the most beautiful albums of the 21th century. It has the soul comparable with the great Marvin Gaye, the smoothnes and intensity of Miles Davis, the funkyness of Prince and the groovieness of, well Larry Heard himself, when he was at his peak, back in the early 90's. "Missing You", "Until the last goodbye" and "Praise" are among the finest work Larry Heard ever made, and are three of the most beautiful songs of the century. "Dew drops" is a funky little number made with some nice sounding analogue synthesizers. "Riverside drive" and "Direct drive" takes you back to the 80's sound of Manchester and Ibiza. I know that a lot of people missed this record when it came out, thinking that Larry Heard never again could repeat the soulful intensity of his earlier work, so please do yourselves a favour and get this record and start believing again...

i tried listening to 'loves arrival' on my train ride home from work tonite and about 1:30 into 'dew drops' i switched to Z-Ro

i would say it wasn't bad but it sounded ... extremely smoothed-out. i like the subtle differences between "introduction", "sceneries not songs", "ice castles / sns2", "alien", "dance 2000" etc. "love's arrival" sounded like you threw all those in a pot and blended together over heat until it turned tasteless.

it felt really bad not to buy it, though. like i was giving up on a hero. sort of how i felt when i sold "tiny reminders".

You know, I haven't been able to stop playing Parage since I got it. This is one record that's gonna get worn out. Srsly, every moment of this is perfect.

Dance is awesome but the dub is better. It's got that almost "bouncey" for lack of a better term, break.

Wow, that is really cool. Delia's one of those pop mavericks I've never really explored properly. An interesting voice for sure. The little vocal snippet at the beginning is super cute.
