I know how the free content business model "works" and how clicks are real important, but "news" like these still annoy me, especially the clickbait framing

http://pitchfork.com/news/56375-aphex-twin-reveals-amazing-syro-album-artwork-and-bio/

"Amazing SYRO Album Artwork"
"Here is the utterly amazing Aphex Twin bio that has been sent out in a press release"

http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/19709-dj-mustard-10-summers/

“Everybody say it’s so easy to make my beats,” Mustard Tweeted a few days ago. “[ Well ] take a swing at it you should be rich [ in ] no time cause I am.” The tweet was punctuated by two emojis that are crying while laughing.

this is like when the new york times alludes to vulgarities it refuses to print because ~classy~

true he should also have referred to DJ Mustard as "Mr. Mustard" in that sentence

Col. Mustard

i actually put those corrections in there in my original draft because it's clear reading that tweet that the misspellings were just dumb phone typos, and i think they made the intent of the tweet a bit harder to parse

One endearing moment of weirdness, however, is “Teach the Children,” a slowed down snippet of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young’s “Teach the Children Well.”

sigh

Me either. This happens a lot here to me. Maybe I'm dull, but often times I wait till more people chime so I can gather clues about what makes some excerpt or lyric bad or good in any given thread.

- some kind of musing about "in the years since interpol formed they've been" and so on
- last two albums have been kinda whatever
- new album shows them coming back with renewed confidence, maybe some line about settling into their role as relative old pros in the indie rock world
- 7.4

Why are they attaching the "Windowlicker" to literally every single news story about the new Aphex Twin album?

Immediate Follower (NA), Wednesday, 3 September 2014 19:26 (nine years ago) link

they've been doing that for awhile, must be an editorial requirement to have a video on every post, so it's "and here's the youtube video with the most hits from this person, which is otherwise unrelated."

festival culture (Jordan), Wednesday, 3 September 2014 19:40 (nine years ago) link

I'm sure it's some kind of SEO baiting.

opening a review with a 5.9 and then indulging in 5 paragraphs of COME LET ME TELL YOU A TALE OF A BAND THAT PEAKED A DECADE AGO before reaffirming the album's negligible status as their fourth-best out of five...and then starting your review.

like people who care about interpol don't already ask why they bother

I should have known there'd be a 9/11 mention in there. the ripple effect al qaeda had is still creating waves that lap at the shores of indie rock even today.

#neverforget

On June 1, 2009, Air France Flight 447 crashed into the Atlantic Ocean. All 228 people aboard died. It's difficult to ignore that tragic fact now when reflecting on-- or, honestly, Googling-- an Air France record called No Way Down, and I know I can't possibly begin to feel the pain of those victims' families.
