pitching the baffler as we speak

balls, Wednesday, 30 July 2014 21:13 (nine years ago) link

dammit i was wondering when someone would figure out the advertorial logic to my typos

da croupier, Wednesday, 30 July 2014 21:13 (nine years ago) link

I thought late shows were kind of universally frustrating to all concert goers and there seems to be literally NOTHING marketable about this, and you are taking a half-baked unwanted thing and trying to spin it in a positive way but all of it seems completely ridiculous and unnecessary

DERE is no DERE DERE (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 30 July 2014 21:31 (nine years ago) link

I mean did I seriously have to fucking type that out

DERE is no DERE DERE (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 30 July 2014 21:32 (nine years ago) link

Here's an idea, how about a Jim Beam®-sponsored restaurant event where they take an hour and a half to bring you your food because of the great bonding experience of sitting at a table with friends you love

DERE is no DERE DERE (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 30 July 2014 21:33 (nine years ago) link

It's almost like advertisers have no fucking idea what they're doing, and websites are totally at their mercy because no one else is giving them money

rock music has given whiskey plenty of free pub over the years, might as well get paid

sinister porpoise (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 30 July 2014 21:42 (nine years ago) link

Probably half of ILM has been paid by Heineken for articles at some point what's the big deal

, Wednesday, 30 July 2014 23:39 (nine years ago) link

the big deal is that stevie finds it absurd and i find it funny

i mean, if you can't see how that's a big deal, well then they already got you

da croupier, Wednesday, 30 July 2014 23:51 (nine years ago) link

o no heineken got dayo

Did any of you ever know that "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight" is actually a song about addiction? Kind of makes its choice as a beer ad even more suspect. Or perhaps ... subversive?

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 31 July 2014 12:27 (nine years ago) link

I dunno everyone decided en masse that no one wanted to pay for music so it seems churlish to mock everyone who's trying to navigate through the rubble

sinister porpoise (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 31 July 2014 14:34 (nine years ago) link

wow we're really taking this "corporations are people" bit to an extreme

da croupier, Thursday, 31 July 2014 16:10 (nine years ago) link

"yes, yes, i know beer ads were funny in the '80s but not...after the fall"

da croupier, Thursday, 31 July 2014 16:11 (nine years ago) link

"now when i see brought to you by pitchfork and jim beam i shed a tear for that poor pitchfork, forced to act like music mags have for decades"

da croupier, Thursday, 31 July 2014 16:12 (nine years ago) link

i think the fact that everyone rolled over w/r/t Converse Rubber Tracks/Mountain Dew Green Label/The oral history of 285 Kent producing events for our million-dollar website presented by TopShop means that no one cares anymore, dogg

dilligaf escape plan (Whiney G. Weingarten), Thursday, 31 July 2014 16:15 (nine years ago) link

people clearly care! i lol'd and got a bunch of "what's the big deal, give 'em a break" static

da croupier, Thursday, 31 July 2014 16:16 (nine years ago) link

"I posted something and everyone shrugged it off" = "no one cares"

dilligaf escape plan (Whiney G. Weingarten), Thursday, 31 July 2014 16:19 (nine years ago) link

"shrugging off" = "thread ignores the churlish clown" not "thread acts like someone's making an unfair stink"

da croupier, Thursday, 31 July 2014 16:20 (nine years ago) link

i mean this

It's almost like advertisers have no fucking idea what they're doing, and websites are totally at their mercy because no one else is giving them money

is not shrugging off

da croupier, Thursday, 31 July 2014 16:21 (nine years ago) link

no, it really is

dilligaf escape plan (Whiney G. Weingarten), Thursday, 31 July 2014 16:21 (nine years ago) link

wow you got a funny way of being indifferent

yes, i'm amused by the parallels to the 80s, whiney

da croupier, Thursday, 31 July 2014 16:24 (nine years ago) link

part of why i think it's funny anyone's being "look it's hard times, man" about a music mag teaming up with a liquor company to put on concerts

just in case anyone thinks i'm still saying alcohol is the anti-rock devil or something, i loved those "stoli tells you what's hot on cargo/headhunter" columns in the back of spin. stoli had good taste

wait I thought the stupidity of this had nothing to do w/ Jim Beam and everything to do w/ like "it's.... late at night! Cool!"

DERE is no DERE DERE (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 1 August 2014 16:39 (nine years ago) link

well yeah, you were laughing about that, i was also chuckling about pitchfork entering the long history of hip-rockmag-and-booze-company-unite-to-celebrate-music-at-night

but the point is that no one was earnestly/unfairly crying "sell-out" or anything

da croupier, Friday, 1 August 2014 17:29 (nine years ago) link

NIGHT CAP........WITH JIM BEAM.........LATE NIGHT CONCERTS..........STARTING AT, WAIT FOR IT........10PM!!!!!!
