hahaha man where was this review when i was long-windedly hating on "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer"

which drives me crazy

Original title: "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer in a warm glass, accurately timed with a stopwatch"

odd proggy geezer (Moodles), Tuesday, 29 July 2014 22:44 (nine years ago) link

I still might rather have a drink with this shut-in dickweed than with George Thorogood, but it'd be a coin toss.

Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 29 July 2014 23:03 (nine years ago) link

The beer was cold, but so was the glass, which drives me crazy

!!?! Has this person never heard of stubby holders if they insist on their glass somehow magically never getting cold with a fucking cold drink in it.

the Bronski Review (Trayce), Tuesday, 29 July 2014 23:16 (nine years ago) link

It's best if they preheat the glass, though there is always a risk that the cold liquid these places always insist on putting in there will bring it down closer to ambient room temperature by the time it reaches one's hand. The day a bartender finally listens to my request for a perfectly empty pint glass at 200 degrees Fahrenheit is the day you, dear readers, will finally see a 4 star review from yours truly. (I pre-dock them a point because, let's face it, that place would be so packed as to ruin the entire experience anyway.)

Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 29 July 2014 23:43 (nine years ago) link

Wasn't Stubby Holder with Slade? Is he working in a bar now?

nickn, Wednesday, 30 July 2014 00:13 (nine years ago) link

well i assume they meant the glass came out of a freezer or was otherwise pre-chilled which i don't like either, but it's kinda on you to know whether you're in a pre-chilled glass kind of establishment.

flatizza (harbl), Wednesday, 30 July 2014 00:31 (nine years ago) link

If one wants a cold pint of beer why would one ask for a warm glass. Your beer will very rapidly go warm also...

the Bronski Review (Trayce), Wednesday, 30 July 2014 00:56 (nine years ago) link

I'm pretty sure CAD is correct here but it's hardly a crime to have pre-chilled beer glasses

odd proggy geezer (Moodles), Wednesday, 30 July 2014 01:18 (nine years ago) link

chilled is cool but that shit where the glass is like covered in tiny ice nodules and there's little semifrozen beer driblets running down the side is not ok, that's some casual chain restaurant shit. here's your heineken bro, ~~ice cold~~, can i start u off with some apps?

Absolutely amazing sports bar so I had the buffalo shrimps and the buffalo wings and they are delicious all the staff is friendly and polite the location is near the Central Park and it was a pleasure for me to come back after 2 years.

Of Mice and Men.

I came to this Hooters location for a birthday party one night and was pretty satisfied at first. The space has good feng shui and is very accommodating. The food wasn't good but I mean c'mon that's not why we're here. If I wanted quality food I would've gone to Chili's.

tbh I have also asked for "unchilled" pint glasses. I used to live in one of those wintertime Canadian cities where receiving a frosty mug when it's -40º out feels like an insult.

fields of salmon, Wednesday, 30 July 2014 13:04 (nine years ago) link

The cold glass comment came from a chain breastaurant in Austin, TX, so he probably wasn't freezing

#3, the food is horrible. every person that has told me good things about this place is overweight.

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Tuesday, 5 August 2014 04:39 (nine years ago) link

I will admit I'm a food snob but this place should make a Midwesterner run away crying in my opinion.

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Tuesday, 5 August 2014 04:42 (nine years ago) link

It was so bad I actually boxed it all up and donated it to a homeless man on the street.

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Tuesday, 5 August 2014 04:45 (nine years ago) link

Worst dining experience I've ever had.
If you take away my silverware from the first course, please replenish it for my entree. I sat there for 20 minutes trying to figure out how to eat a lobster with my hands. Not to mention that a dozen servers walked by while I'm trying to flag somebody down. I finally gave up and asked a busser for my food to go.

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Tuesday, 5 August 2014 04:48 (nine years ago) link

that b&b thing -- i actually have a room booked at a hudson, new york b&b for a month from now, and when i heard about a "hudson b&b with a $500 fine" i got really nervous and scrambled to make sure the place wasn't the same one i reserved. it's not.

I just left this establishment with a group of my friends and we just got assaulted by some crazy girl and her boyfriend. The girl threw a full coke can at my friend's head , spit in my other friend's face, yanked our hair, and was swinging at us. At one point her boyfriend was also swinging at my female friends. While all this was happening, the employees just stood there and did not even ask them to leave. We even begged them to call the cops and they told us we could call the cops ourselves. They do not care about the safety of their customers.

three weeks pass...

What not to eat: The free water. The staff stores their cups filed with water in their fridge. To say the water is inedible would be an understatement.

flatizza (harbl), Friday, 5 September 2014 00:18 (nine years ago) link

Be careful when calling in...if you get the wrong location they will ask you to go to the other to pick it up!! And will refuse to make your order at the intended location. Ridiculous policy. Even though I live and work within minutes of this place I won't be coming back. Non-friendly customer policy.

This place....(small bit of drool is forming) as I fall back in my seat from foodgasm after foodgasm when I think of all the great meals and great times I've had here.

hahahah wait, is that really saying, this place is bad because if you order from them, they have the food ready at the location you ordered it from? ridiculous policy!

Assuming this is because the flavors in the fridge permeate the water?

, Friday, 5 September 2014 11:41 (nine years ago) link

I think it is because the water has been used for filing.

Friends of mine opened a cafe and I was considering advising them to avoid Yelp entirely -- anyone have thoughts or anecdotal experience relevant to that?

I enjoy those "they hate us on Yelp" stickers that some establishments put up, tell them to do that.

you guys i wish i could share how often i am in meetings where tripadvisor reviews are read aloud/my hotel's tripadvisor ranking is discussed/obsessed over

╲╱\/╲/\╱╲╱\/\ (gr8080), Friday, 5 September 2014 16:45 (nine years ago) link

i am always a little creeped out when hotel/b&b/etc employees implore me to leave good reviews for them on tripadvisor. like it taints the whole interaction a little, lays bare the mercenary foundation of the hospitality/guest relationship.

adam, Friday, 5 September 2014 16:53 (nine years ago) link

I feel a similar thing with Taco Bell and Home Depot, where they remind you that you can be entered into a chance to win amounts of money if you go online and complete surveys rating your experience.
