it's not rocker science (WilliamC), Friday, 11 July 2014 21:41 (nine years ago) link

I'd suggest moving the Ramones up, but I know TM just finished Dylan.

clemenza, Saturday, 12 July 2014 06:42 (nine years ago) link

I'd second that suggestion if tm is up to the task.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 12 July 2014 07:28 (nine years ago) link

Thirded

Incident At Spanish Harlem (C. Grisso/McCain), Saturday, 12 July 2014 07:51 (nine years ago) link

Sorry, just saw this. We can do Ramones whenever, though the immediacy of Tommy's passing has obviously passed.

something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Wednesday, 23 July 2014 03:28 (nine years ago) link

i get the feeling it would still make a lot of people happy/comforted to do it sooner than later, though

not pop, shambhala, where to buy weed (some dude), Wednesday, 23 July 2014 10:39 (nine years ago) link

Well, I'm happy to move it up if that's a preference. I have a vacation coming up mid-August, so either we'd have to have about a three-week voting period starting this weekend or else just not start until Aug. 20 or so.

something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Thursday, 24 July 2014 03:22 (nine years ago) link

I don't even know anymore. Somebody who wants to go next just step up and go. If Clemenza's school break means he'd have time now, YLT seems like a good option. The big list seems more optional every day.

rockist popist papist (WilliamC), Thursday, 24 July 2014 03:58 (nine years ago) link

Maybe there's just a natural lull in enthusiasm for conducting/voting in the big artist polls. Would gladly (still) participate in a Ramones poll, though.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 24 July 2014 05:03 (nine years ago) link

summer's tough, most people's routines get shaken up

not pop, shambhala, where to buy weed (some dude), Thursday, 24 July 2014 05:39 (nine years ago) link

I'm going to have to wait until next summer for Yo La Tengo--sorry. I had mentioned somewhere above about moving down the list a bit, so that it roughly times out to next July.

clemenza, Thursday, 24 July 2014 12:53 (nine years ago) link

Is Chic on deck?

Naive Teen Idol, Thursday, 24 July 2014 16:21 (nine years ago) link

Damnit... are we just going to skip Autechre?! I mean if Leee isn't going to do it, hell I'll volunteer

octobeard, Tuesday, 29 July 2014 23:08 (nine years ago) link

People are slightly burnt out on ballot polls, so let's try to reinvigorate things with...Autechre! Solid idea.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 29 July 2014 23:18 (nine years ago) link

Oh, I've been sick... I can still do it though graphics probably will look buttsy for an artist with such a memorable visual aesthetic (at least via TDR). If you're graphic designer or something, you can go for it.

Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Tuesday, 29 July 2014 23:20 (nine years ago) link

the coast is clear for that JF 1940s poll

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 29 July 2014 23:23 (nine years ago) link

1940s would be cool, but that would be an even deeper excavation for me (and for a lot of people) than even the 1950s poll was. I just don't have it in me to do something like that right now, even though the 1950s poll was the greatest ballot poll ever in the history of ILM.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 29 July 2014 23:27 (nine years ago) link

Well with Classic Rock done and nothing else bubbling, I'm happy to start the Ramones poll this weekend. It'd be a good end-of-summer poll, I guess. I'll need to leave it open about three weeks to account for a planned vacation.

something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Sunday, 3 August 2014 04:14 (nine years ago) link

There's no holding ILMers from polling

Doctor Casino, Sunday, 3 August 2014 04:18 (nine years ago) link

OK, it's a go: HEY! HO! LET'S POLL!

something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Sunday, 3 August 2014 13:47 (nine years ago) link

1. Can I do an Aphex Twin poll?

2. Would it be crazy to maybe do multiple polls at once if the list is this huge? I mean you get like 3 or 4 weeks to make up ballots and do ppl ever really vote in back to back polls?

DERE is no DERE DERE (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 17 August 2014 00:53 (nine years ago) link

1. Sure!
2. Alfred votes in just about every one of these, near as I can tell, and more power to him. But yeah, I've always thought there should be more overlapping, if not simultaneous polls. All these things need is enthusiasm, which seems to be in short supply all around lately (classic rock aside). I know I don't have any to spare.

Speaking of which, if anybody would like to take over from me on the Hendrix and Solo Beatles polls, I'd be happy to turn those over to you. I'd still like to handle the Bacharach one.

Cindy Operahouse (WilliamC), Monday, 18 August 2014 21:25 (nine years ago) link

i have been sitting on a few but think it is time to add this one.

can you put me down for Blondie please?

Bee OK, Thursday, 21 August 2014 01:46 (nine years ago) link

I'm confused - what's next after the Ramons? Autechre? Chic? Radiohead?

Οὖτις, Friday, 22 August 2014 20:15 (nine years ago) link

Great question. I think anyone with an ounce of energy could jump to the head of the line and there would be few complaints.

Cindy Operahouse (WilliamC), Friday, 22 August 2014 20:45 (nine years ago) link

well for my part I would like to do the XTC one. (I know I am on deck for P-Funk first but I feel like switching)

Οὖτις, Friday, 22 August 2014 20:47 (nine years ago) link

I can wait til the Ramones roll out is over if need be

Οὖτις, Friday, 22 August 2014 20:47 (nine years ago) link

Sounds good. "Life Begins at the Hop" ftw.

Cindy Operahouse (WilliamC), Friday, 22 August 2014 20:49 (nine years ago) link

anyone has objections plz speak up - Lee, Donna, Nate, flopson...?

Οὖτις, Friday, 22 August 2014 20:50 (nine years ago) link

I am a terrible person. I was one of the voices calling for a Ramones poll but never found time to send in a ballot.

Everyone's a closet ned. (Johnny Fever), Friday, 22 August 2014 21:05 (nine years ago) link

cretin

birdman junior dad (some dude), Friday, 22 August 2014 21:31 (nine years ago) link

gabba gabba we reject you

Οὖτις, Friday, 22 August 2014 21:33 (nine years ago) link

No Riff Randall for you!

Randall "Humble" Pie (C. Grisso/McCain), Friday, 22 August 2014 21:44 (nine years ago) link

I can start Radiohead right now.

nate woolls, Saturday, 23 August 2014 09:13 (nine years ago) link

can I put my name down for something? would there be enough people interested to make an electroclash poll worthwhile? (factoring in the possibility of a sweeping electroclash revival by 2019 or whenever the poll would happen)

soref, Saturday, 23 August 2014 13:01 (nine years ago) link

electroclash poll would be amazing.

toby, Saturday, 23 August 2014 14:42 (nine years ago) link

115. Aphex Twin - Stevie D
116. Blondie - Bee OK
117. Electroclash - soref

Cindy Operahouse (WilliamC), Saturday, 23 August 2014 14:49 (nine years ago) link

I'd volunteer to host one or substitute if the spreadsheet math didn't frighten me.

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 23 August 2014 14:52 (nine years ago) link

90% of poll running duties is math tbh

birdman junior dad (some dude), Saturday, 23 August 2014 14:53 (nine years ago) link

I was spreadsheet illiterate before Zeppelin but it turned out not to be too hard.

Cindy Operahouse (WilliamC), Saturday, 23 August 2014 14:56 (nine years ago) link

A lot of it is just punching in stuff, and eventually doing some organization.

Randall "Humble" Pie (C. Grisso/McCain), Saturday, 23 August 2014 14:57 (nine years ago) link

less math more data entry tbh

resulting post (rogermexico.), Saturday, 23 August 2014 15:15 (nine years ago) link

You could outsource, or at least hire an intern.

OH MY GOD HE'S OOGLEEE (Leee), Saturday, 23 August 2014 17:18 (nine years ago) link

Worst part is data entry. 40 different ways to rank and spell the same song.

pplains, Saturday, 23 August 2014 17:19 (nine years ago) link

Ha, yes. "Battle of Evermore" and "The Battle of Evermore," gotta get them together. And take the numbering off the front end.

Anyway, Nate and Otis, whatever you two wanna work out is cool. Might be time to shift from the fascist tyranny of a numbered list to a system based on pure clean energy levels and auras and chakras and e-meter readings and whatnot.

Cindy Operahouse (WilliamC), Saturday, 23 August 2014 19:08 (nine years ago) link

If there's no objections I'm going to start the Radiohead poll in the next hour.
