This either had to be my #1 or my #30, it just seemed odd putting it anywhere else on the ballot. #30 it was.

"Baby's On Fire" is all about the solo.

For me it's all about the super-deep "bommmm" bit juxtaposed with the sneery whine. But then I'm not a big solo fan.

Voted high for both 'True Wheel' and 'St. Elmo's Fire' so I'm happy anyway.

I like the lyrics of Baby's on Fire at least as much as the solo. This kind of experience is necessary for her learning.

'St Elmo's Fire' is all about everything but the entrance of the solo is an all-time moment of anything ever, Fripp just saying "spit ions in the ether? Sure, easy".

Forgot "Everything Merges With the Night" – forgot to include this. My second favorite vocal song on AGW after "St. Elmo's Fire." It just embodies that pic on the back sleeve with him sitting in some flat somewhere.

"On Some Faraway Beach" has always been compromised by a piano part that reminds me of Bob Seger's "Still the Same."

"Needles in the Camel's Eye" was my solitary vote from Warm Jets. he never bettered the VU-meets-glam template he set here.

"By This River" – another one that could've been my #1 but just a hair behind "...Julie With" and "Spider & I" which probably says more about my feelings for Side 2 of BaAS than anything. Also, another Roedelius solo song stretched out:

One of my all time 5 fave gtr solos, but the whole package is brilliant.

"The True Wheel" inspired at least two band names: 801 and A Certain Ratio. Also, possibly, The Modern Lovers. Has to be some kind of record.

I love this Manzanera solo more than most things – this kept creeping up my ballot until it finally landed at #5.

I enjoyed doing the poll! I hope everybody was ok with the lowkey no-bombast rollout. They can't all be big parties, and basically the data collection is worthwhile in and of itself, imo.

I didn't vote for any Roxy. They are among my favorite bands but I just couldn't in good conscience credit Eno with their early success, esp. since he didn't write any of those songs.

I didn't think I knew enough Eno to vote, but that wd've maybe been my number 1 (either that or the title-track)

Speaking of "The Big Ship," Eno pretty much owns that sort of wistful chord progression, doesn't he? Kind of his own variation on the doo wop progression. He comes back to it a lot in various projects, and explores a similar sort of ideas in "Spinning Away," or even the beginning of "Where the Streets Have No Name," say.
