Yeah, I listened to this album at the gym this morning and I think "Regiment" holds up best over the years. But it's solid throughout.

Wow, despite being a massive fan of both and their work together, I'm oddly cool to the Fripp and Eno stuff. Still, thought this would've placed much higher.

Naive Teen Idol, Thursday, 10 July 2014 18:50 (nine years ago) link

Crüt, have you ever played this on your show?

BTW, felt a little bad about it but actually had to work to get stuff from HCtWJ on my ballot. And I like the record!

Naive Teen Idol, Thursday, 10 July 2014 19:11 (nine years ago) link

I just checked my ballot and exactly half of the spots went to the 70s song quartet of albums. Which seems about right to me.

Adore this.

It's beautiful, but it seems way too slight to be this high in the results.

China My China and Fat Lady not making my Top list surprised me - on another day they might easily beat other tracks

Paul, Thursday, 10 July 2014 19:28 (nine years ago) link

There needs to be a movie based on "Fat Lady"'s lyrics.

Yes, but:

A) it's very emblematic of what he accomplished with that record, and

B) it's the title track of his most famous work.

All of which is to say, I think placing in the thirties makes sense.

Brian Eno/David Byrne - "The Jezebel Spirit" - from My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, 1981

Pretty cool vid combining the music with clips from the 1928 Fall of the House of Usher: http://youtu.be/hoG2rAkAQvI

This is the last track to have # of votes in the single digits.

Used to love Jezebel ... but it's kind of dinky in retrospect.

Also, the original with Katherine Kuhlman, which her estate refused to license because, presumably, it made her sound creepy as hell:

Jezebel got some DJ/dancefloor action - probably good for Halloween parties too!

Mother Whale Eyeless!! A song that makes me feel good every time I hear it, which is 3x/wk. Never sick of it!!

La Lechera, Thursday, 10 July 2014 20:28 (nine years ago) link

Briefly considered putting Mother Whale Eyeless as my #1 (it ended up in the top ten). Love the bridge with his falsetto vocal in it.

otm. i've remarked on it elsewhere but that bridge is my favorite eno moment, and i wish there was some song that took that brief feeling and extended it for several minutes
