I know it's a rare instance of a band being unsatisfied with the Eno treatment, even if Eno was apparently pretty hands off. I guess he took too many rough edges off? Similar to this, I suppose:

apollo is the most highly revered ambient eno that i just can't get into.

i love music for airports, the pearl, thursday afternoon, music for films, etc, but the apollo vibe always makes my stomach turn for some reason

Pretty sure I'd never heard any of it until the Trainspotting soundtrack.

it has a twee lullabyish feel to it a lot of the time, less of an uncanny edge than a lot of his other ambient stuff

Apollo is my favorite ambient Eno after DM, particularly the second side. I count maybe one treacly moment.

xps it's the 2nd half I'm thinking of, with all the warm twangy stuff, and I'm prob overstating it a bit. Stuff like "weightless" tho

i've never heard my life in the bush of ghosts (but i know about it)
am i missing anything essential?

stupid question obvs but i guess my question is would i like it?

I think you would dig it and it would blow your mind with fun but not heavyosity.

Except for "Mountain of Needles," which still gives me the heebie-jeebies 33 years later.

it is my fave eno collaboration. this is how world music should sound, experimental & tribal. still fresh and exciting today.

Xpost Apollo has An Ending Ascent, my vote for prettiest Eno. Most ambient Eno is a bit darker.

xp: actually crashed my car on the way home from the record shop when I bought Tiger Mountain - skidded off the road on a curve and lost control when I reached out to SAVE THE LP falling off the passenger seat ($165 repairs in 1981 dollars)!

Only a single point separated #4 and #3.

My Life in the Bush of Ghosts is the only Eno album whose popularity mystifies me. He did sooooo much better in Remain in Light and The Catherine Wheel.

love Remain In Light but lukewarm towards Houses, Listening (though sonically lovely) and Overload

xp btw i have always underestimated or better underapprecited taking tiger mountain. it has two of my fave songs by eno on it, "third uncle" and "the true wheel". it's so varied & more mesmerizing than the other solo albums.
