xp -- I can't think of any others, but if this poll has taught me anything, it's that I don't know as much about Eno as I thought I did.

No Line on the Horizon. Besides, Surprise is mostly Simon-produced.

The first couple minutes of the title track...

I think I need to get past my issues with U2 and actually listen to these records.

You don't gotta be a U2 fan to love Zooropa.

Speaking of Budd, I listened to The Pavilion of Dreams last night for the first time and I wish I could go back in time and put it on my productions ballot.

As a huge Eno fan, and a big Lanois fan, and a pretty big U2 fan, it never ceases to amaze me that I repeatedly forget "No Line on the Horizon" exists. I mean, it's not terrible. Just ... worthless?

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 20:42 (nine years ago) link

No Pussyfooting: by far my favorite Fripp album (have time for occasion Fripp songs of course)

i wonder what eno thought of akron

La Lechera, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 20:50 (nine years ago) link

thinks, even!

La Lechera, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 20:50 (nine years ago) link

Did he ever go there? I picture him sending the band a telegram summoning them to Cologne.

I know it's a rare instance of a band being unsatisfied with the Eno treatment, even if Eno was apparently pretty hands off. I guess he took too many rough edges off? Similar to this, I suppose:

Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks - Brian Eno, with Daniel Lanois and Roger Eno (1983)

it's not rocker science (WilliamC), Wednesday, 9 July 2014 21:00 (nine years ago) link

apollo is the most highly revered ambient eno that i just can't get into.

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 21:01 (nine years ago) link

i love music for airports, the pearl, thursday afternoon, music for films, etc, but the apollo vibe always makes my stomach turn for some reason

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 21:03 (nine years ago) link

Pretty sure I'd never heard any of it until the Trainspotting soundtrack.

it's not rocker science (WilliamC), Wednesday, 9 July 2014 21:03 (nine years ago) link

it has a twee lullabyish feel to it a lot of the time, less of an uncanny edge than a lot of his other ambient stuff

I love it

Apollo is my favorite ambient Eno after DM, particularly the second side. I count maybe one treacly moment.

xps it's the 2nd half I'm thinking of, with all the warm twangy stuff, and I'm prob overstating it a bit. Stuff like "weightless" tho

anyway, thread needs more ENO PICS dammit

<3 discreet music

i first listened to it as part of a silly sleep experiment that i wrote about for the alt weekly i worked for
