i've listened to every episode of BEE's podcast since it started, but i can only take Maron in really, *really* small doses. he's insufferable but i realize that BEE is just as insufferable to others

christ, how far in advance does he tape? i've been waiting for the bret easton ellis episode for a month now, maybe more like 3 weeks, maybe 2....STILL

Sometimes 4 months, sometimes 2 days.

Really enjoyed the Vince Vaughan episode. Genuinely a very funny guy which was a surprise. To me at least.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 20:55 (nine years ago) link

Okay this is way more Maron simulating sex with a woman than I needed to see.

oblique blasphemies (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Friday, 18 July 2014 12:08 (nine years ago) link

i lolled at Maron's: "Taylor Swift is a lesbian?"

relentlessly pecking at peace (President Keyes), Friday, 18 July 2014 12:58 (nine years ago) link

"Is this getting too Jew-y?"

RAP GAME SHANI DAVIS (Raymond Cummings), Monday, 21 July 2014 16:31 (nine years ago) link

the jack antonoff one was way more engaging than i expected.

Maron is on Norm MacDonald's podcast this week. Great episode - talks about psychotic breaks, AA, interviewing, stand-up life, etc. Cool to hear them just yakking without the show context of WTF

Elvis Telecom, Sunday, 27 July 2014 04:31 (nine years ago) link

Mike Meyers ep is great. I particularly enjoyed the couple of anecdotes about young Dave Foley.

for some reason, i was surprised to find out that Shrek was A) originally supposed to be Farly and 2) wasn't done originally with a Scottish accent.

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 30 July 2014 19:51 (nine years ago) link

i was surprised that Shrek is a Scottish ogre (never seen it)

festival culture (Jordan), Wednesday, 30 July 2014 20:36 (nine years ago) link

Mike Myers' extended telling of the story behind the Wayne's World sketch with Tom Hanks and Aerosmith is awesome, because that's always been one of my favorite things he ever did on the show.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 4 August 2014 20:41 (nine years ago) link

Claire Danes today!

Don't flirt too much, Marc!

the one where, as balls alludes (Eazy), Monday, 4 August 2014 21:03 (nine years ago) link

I've downloaded it, but tbh the idea of listening to Claire Danes speak for an hour about whatever is not making me excited.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 4 August 2014 21:06 (nine years ago) link

Maron was driving me nuts with all the "yeah"s "right"s "uh huh uh huh"s and sentence finishing in the Danes interview. It was like he had a plane to catch.

Now you're messing with a (President Keyes), Monday, 4 August 2014 23:03 (nine years ago) link

Mike Myers ep is gold

rip van wanko, Monday, 4 August 2014 23:06 (nine years ago) link

Decided to listen to Claire Danes. Marc seems disappointed that she's not as mentally disturbed as he'd like her to be.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 4 August 2014 23:11 (nine years ago) link

Today's is great.

I don't think I ever knew that Bob Newhart had never really done any live standup before he recorded his first album—which went on to win Album of the Year and net him a Best New Artist Grammy in 1961.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 11 August 2014 16:07 (nine years ago) link

that stuff about Dean Martin was hilarious -- Dean just rolls into the show in the afternoon & is genuinely cracking up at Newhart because it's the first time he's heard the material. Like Maron says, it totally makes sense I just never knew that's how it went down. Crazy.

great interview, seems like such a nice man

Love Bob Newhart so much that I'm actually listening to WTF.

"I like Francis a lot, what he's doing."
"Wha--who's that?"
"Pope Francis."

the one where, as balls alludes (Eazy), Monday, 11 August 2014 20:02 (nine years ago) link

As much as I love Mould as a musician, the best part of his interview today is when he's talking about professional wrestling stuff.

Everyone's a closet ned. (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 14 August 2014 21:53 (nine years ago) link

I'm watching the 1st episode of Maron right now (it's just started on Fox over here). Maron can't act.

everyday sheeple (Michael B), Thursday, 14 August 2014 22:06 (nine years ago) link

He gets better in the second season. Still distracting sometimes.

oblique blasphemies (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Thursday, 14 August 2014 22:14 (nine years ago) link

Yeah, I turned it over, it wasn't very good. Does it get better?

everyday sheeple (Michael B), Thursday, 14 August 2014 22:20 (nine years ago) link

Well...

oblique blasphemies (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Thursday, 14 August 2014 22:25 (nine years ago) link

A little? It's a little more consistent, I think.

smoochy-woochy touchy-wouchy, (sunny successor), Tuesday, 19 August 2014 21:38 (nine years ago) link

I was pretty bummed over their group fuss about words/topics they can't use in comedy anymore. Shitty way to end a pretty good interview.

Everyone's a closet ned. (Johnny Fever), Tuesday, 19 August 2014 21:40 (nine years ago) link

couldnt make it through the maron angst session. try again tomorrow i guess

smoochy-woochy touchy-wouchy, (sunny successor), Wednesday, 20 August 2014 02:01 (nine years ago) link

What a surprise that a Seth MacFarlane-favoured writer would blankly fail to understand how rote, unthought insults could possibly be offensive on any level

Maron usually rolls over on his interviewees saying boneheadedly dumb shit, so the very friendly pushback on this was at least partly heartening to hear

boney tassel (sic), Wednesday, 20 August 2014 05:06 (nine years ago) link

the Ty Segall one is an entire episode of "Who are your guys?"

Now you're messing with a (President Keyes), Thursday, 21 August 2014 16:42 (nine years ago) link

Ha! it really is.

Everyone's a closet ned. (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 21 August 2014 17:40 (nine years ago) link

Robyn Hitchcock tomorrow?!?!

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 27 August 2014 23:00 (nine years ago) link

The Wanda Sykes one is pretty good. You can tell they have a lot of mutual respect and admiration for each other.

Survivalist Compound Row (B.L.A.M.), Wednesday, 27 August 2014 23:05 (nine years ago) link

yeah that was a nice conversation. seemed like there was some dark stuff underneath her first marriage, did not sound like a good scene at all

SEEMS TO ME (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 27 August 2014 23:08 (nine years ago) link

I agree - it did not sound like a happy situation.

As a side note, do you all ever listen to the Longform podcast? It's rapidly becoming a favorite of mine.

Survivalist Compound Row (B.L.A.M.), Thursday, 28 August 2014 00:02 (nine years ago) link

schlump, Thursday, 28 August 2014 05:05 (nine years ago) link

yeah that was kinda cool

SEEMS TO ME (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 28 August 2014 05:40 (nine years ago) link

Paid $9 for yearly access to the archives, but this proprietary player sucks compared to Pocket Cast (or even the iOS podcasts app).
Listened to Mark Duplass one today - it was really good and pretty surprising because I only know him from The League.

Downloading some Longforms now, I've been having a hard time finding podcasts I like - comedians talking to comedians is boring, even the good tentpole podcasts (WTF, nerdist, etc.) rely on that too much.

I was looking forward to this Jay Bakker episode because, even though I've not been associated with the church or considered myself a Christian in over 20 years, I always did like the Bakkers. Especially Tammy Faye. Jay seems like a good guy too.

I was never on the fence about whether or not Jerry Falwell was an asshole to his core, but it was nice to have that confirmed.

Everyone's a closet ned. (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 4 September 2014 17:42 (nine years ago) link

Did you ever see his documentary TV series, One Punk Under God? It was pretty good.
