Weirdest birth scene ever?

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 14:05 (fifteen years ago) link

ackasldgkj advisor will not give this shit up! she is now trying to get me to do a music copyist internship? um, no thanks. i don't understand how in her brain sitting there copying music for less $ for broadway is more worthwhile than doing contracts and finance and working with opera people?

tehresa, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 15:53 (fifteen years ago) link

also, morning itr!

tehresa, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 15:53 (fifteen years ago) link

Hi tehresa! Can I ask, is the h in your name really as it's written here or is that for crazy interweb "teh" gags?

Mark C, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 15:55 (fifteen years ago) link

it is for interweb gags but also lol no one can ever spell my name properly anyway, so why not make joek out of it!!

tehresa, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 15:56 (fifteen years ago) link

ITR = preserve of sanity at the moment.

Ed, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 16:21 (fifteen years ago) link

yah rly

BLACK BEYONCE, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 16:23 (fifteen years ago) link

tehresa, i am glad that someone shares my pain of never getting my name spelled right.

BLACK BEYONCE, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 16:24 (fifteen years ago) link

uh i was referring to justen, not beyonce, btw

BLACK BEYONCE, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 16:24 (fifteen years ago) link

You try being called my name (which you have on the backo0f an envelope somewhere)

Mark C, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 16:26 (fifteen years ago) link

lol ;)
xpost

tehresa, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 16:32 (fifteen years ago) link

Beyonce Justen is tricky to spell. Justen alone seems kinda simple, though. (Then again, I've been surprised by the number of people who try to put an r in Coolidge).

tehresa - is your advisor ever going to GET OVER IT? (Theresa isn't that hard to spell, either... jeez.)

Also - hi Ed!

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 16:39 (fifteen years ago) link

DON'T GIVE AWAY HER REAL NAME ON THE INTERNETS!!

Mark C, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 16:41 (fifteen years ago) link

no, it's not hard to spell but you'd be amazed how many reply to emails that have the name THERESA staring RIGHT AT THEM with "dear teresa,"

tehresa, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 16:41 (fifteen years ago) link

i don't know what her deal is. i am supposed to call her today but i don't want to.

tehresa, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 16:42 (fifteen years ago) link

i like tehresa better than theresa tbh

i also did not notice that was a misspelling until just now so that probably says a lot for the amount of salt you should take that opinion w/

CROOLIDGE

BLACK BEYONCE, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 16:47 (fifteen years ago) link

do the cool ridge

katharine is rough too. first they need to know if it starts with a K or a C. then they need to know if it ends in rine or ryn. then i have to also tell them its an a and not an e in the middle which just gets a lot of HUH?

sunny successor, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 16:48 (fifteen years ago) link

It is kind of a mystery to me why people go out of their way to make up new spellings of names to make their kids stand out (or whatever their reasons are) when even the most generic name (i.e. SARA) has multiple possible spellings.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 16:52 (fifteen years ago) link

Katherine is a VERY pretty name, no matter how you spell it, btw.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 16:53 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah but in their defense sunny i imagine its kinda like -

katharine - with a k, and an i-n-e at then end, and an 'a' in the middle

WTFF why dont you just TELL ME HOW ITS SPELLED?

deeznuts, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 16:57 (fifteen years ago) link

This is my third contribution to this thread. I have had laryngitis for the past week, and now I am over it. I cannot tell you a better feeling imaginable than the one I experienced last night: lying in bed and feeling my sinuses spontaneously clear out for the first time in a week -- loads better than sex.

remy bean, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 16:59 (fifteen years ago) link

but deez when i just spell it they read it back with the E anyways

sunny successor, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 17:06 (fifteen years ago) link

haha. yes. that is what happens to me. 't-h-e-r-e-s-a-' ok 't-e-r-e-s-a'

tehresa, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 17:08 (fifteen years ago) link

Hello HSTNGS.

My entire family has a reflex action to spell our surname every time we say it.

Ed, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 17:12 (fifteen years ago) link

Wow, is your name really hard to spell, like, I don't know, Wcyznci or something?

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 17:35 (fifteen years ago) link

my dad's mother actually forced him and his sister to change their last name due to red scare/bad spelling confusion.

tehresa, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 17:37 (fifteen years ago) link

Wow. I always thought "Robinson" was painfully boring, but maybe I should have been grateful.

REMY WE GOT A MYSTERIOUS PHONE CALL FROM A COLLEGE FRIEND WHO CLAIMS HE MET YOU IN SEATTLE

HI DERE, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 18:12 (fifteen years ago) link

wtf am i doing awake

i just had this dream that a guy was going to stamp on my hands really hard (and making me leave my rings on while he did it, for maximum damage). i woke up bawling my eyes out because i couldnt get away.

i always spell my last name out, even tho it only has four letters. no one ever hears it right. FYI: my current last name is not my birth name, and i have actually gone by 3 different ones. i is a lady of myyyyyyyystery.

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 18:17 (fifteen years ago) link

people who are my facebook friend know what my last name is. NO ONE SPELLS IT RIGHT. EVER. OR PRONOUNCES IT RIGHT. IT IS THREE LETTERS.

Person: "What's your name?"
Me: "Jessie [LAST NAME]"
Person: "Could you spell that, please?"
Me: "[VERY EASY SPELLING OF THREE-LETTER LAST NAME]"
Person: "....OH."

Obviously my first can be spelled any number of ways, but it doesn't really bother me. I hate it when parents spell their kids' really boring suburban names in "unique" ways to make them more special (variations on katherine/theresa do not count here, I'm talking like "meagghainnn" etc.)

jessie monster, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 18:17 (fifteen years ago) link

I should also mention my last name is an extremely common noun.

jessie monster, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 18:18 (fifteen years ago) link

"monster" is not actually all that common in general people speak

BLACK BEYONCE, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 18:20 (fifteen years ago) link

lol jessie to poeple pronounce it 'french style' a lot?

tehresa, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 18:22 (fifteen years ago) link

yes! trying to fancy up my last name, those bastards.

best last name question ever:
Pizza Delivery Guy: "Are you Korean?"

jessie monster, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 18:23 (fifteen years ago) link

wow. i apologize for my terribly boring joke two posts up. i think i need a nap, i have run out of the funny.

BLACK BEYONCE, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 18:28 (fifteen years ago) link

It is the double barrelling that makes it difficult. It is amazing how many people don't know what a hyphen is.

Ed, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 18:30 (fifteen years ago) link

sorry I didn't acknowledge you beyonce. maybe it is time for a new single. xp

Yes, I sold him a book? He was really cool. I told him to say 'hi'.

remy bean, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 18:40 (fifteen years ago) link

it was a very surreal moment -- i have met a lot of people who claim to know people i know, but i usually think they are lying.

remy bean, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 18:41 (fifteen years ago) link

He's the assistant conductor of the Harvard Glee Club now! Started out as a chemistry PhD, ended up a choral conductor; it's a funny old life.

HI DERE, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 18:42 (fifteen years ago) link

Dan, how was VEGAS VEGAS VEGAS?

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 18:51 (fifteen years ago) link

FOOD

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 19:07 (fifteen years ago) link

Food was AMAZING. Actually everything was AMAZING. I highly recommend saving pennies and staying at one of the lol-$$$$ hotels (Wynn, Venetian, Bellagio, Caeser's Palace) because SRSLY WAU AWSUM.

We spent an inordinate amount of time in the Bellagio VIP lounge drinking Patron neat. Also saw the Hoover Dam (WAU).

HI DERE, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 19:15 (fifteen years ago) link

(I should note we were staying at The Venetian so our presence in the Bellagio VIP lounge was at best sketchy; our friend's high-roller aunts were there and kept giving us food comps for the Bellagio and, in a pinch, could have stood in for us had we been questioned... but we weren't. WOOT)

HI DERE, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 19:16 (fifteen years ago) link

That sounds SO FUN!

Soooooo jealous right now. (!!!!!)

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 19:21 (fifteen years ago) link

Did I mention we also got into Pure at Caeser's for free thanks to sketchy high-roller hookups? Also we saw O for free thanks to SKHH?

We also saw Spamalot! (starring JOHN O'HURLEY who was O'VERYGOOD but not O'MAZING) but the performance was halted for 15 minutes when the set malfunctioned and one of the dancers injured herself right at the beginning of a huge dance number. She was carried offstage sobbing by stagehands! WAU
