I don't like Queen (a gay man leading a bombastic fascist rally = CREEPY. Also the Sparks have better songs) or Abba either.

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 20:16 (seventeen years ago) link

The 2 bands that I think fit the bill are The Ramones and Cheap Trick.

Jim Reckling (Jim Reckling), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 23:03 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't object too much to The Ramones although I do have a problem with how they were playing basically the same song through their first four albums.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 6 July 2006 00:15 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh and I forgot X, although I guess there could be some here that don't like them.

Jim Reckling (Jim Reckling), Thursday, 6 July 2006 00:41 (seventeen years ago) link

Nina Simone.

Owen Pallett (Owen Pallett), Thursday, 6 July 2006 02:29 (seventeen years ago) link

Nope, scott seward has been very vocal about his Nina hatred.

Marmot 4-Tay: forth-coming, my child. forth-coming most righteous champion (mar, Thursday, 6 July 2006 02:32 (seventeen years ago) link

GNARLS BARKLEY!

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Thursday, 6 July 2006 02:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Seeing as how Geir's "opinion doesn't count" James Brown and The Ramones do seem like fairly sensible answers. I've never heard anyone seriously say "I fucking hate The Ramones".

Marmot 4-Tay: forth-coming, my child. forth-coming most righteous champion (mar, Thursday, 6 July 2006 02:48 (seventeen years ago) link

Ok, Tico Tico upthread said he didn't like The Ramones. What about the Temptations?

Marmot 4-Tay: forth-coming, my child. forth-coming most righteous champion (mar, Thursday, 6 July 2006 02:59 (seventeen years ago) link

The Flaming Lips?

ffs

everyone hates them, or at least everyone SHOULD hate them! truly vile.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 6 July 2006 07:16 (seventeen years ago) link

Flaming Lips is one of the silliest answers on this thread yet.

Someone has vetoed New Order = this feat is beyond us.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 6 July 2006 08:56 (seventeen years ago) link

madonna, surely! i mean maybe not madonna NOW but i can't imagine that anyone would loathe the whole of madonna's career.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 6 July 2006 08:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh come on, don't be ridiculous. Of course there are Madonna haters here.

Jackson 5 (as opposed to solo Michael Jackson) is probably one of the closest calls, although I'm not sure what Shakey Mo or Alex in NYC have to say about them.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:00 (seventeen years ago) link

who's a madonna hater! TELL ME WHO THESE AWFUL PEOPLE ARE I DO NOT KNOW THEM. i've seen hate for her current direction and hate for individual songs but everyone loves one madonna period surely.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:05 (seventeen years ago) link

aside from the fact she can't sing or play an instrument, keep the poster on the wall

nicky lo-fi (nicky lo-fi), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:06 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm not that keen on Madonna. I can't think of a song I particularly like by her.

What about Outkast??!

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:07 (seventeen years ago) link

or Horace Andy? Lee Perry?

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:08 (seventeen years ago) link

A few good soldiers have mentioned Talking Heads, but the haters remain hidden in their foxholes. I'm flying the TH flag right now, haters. Shoot, dammit, shoot!

Also - no hate for Madonna here. She's like a virgin. And a whore. What more do you want in a musician?

cosmo vitelli (cosmo vitelli), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:10 (seventeen years ago) link

60's Stones
80's Prince

nicky lo-fi (nicky lo-fi), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:14 (seventeen years ago) link

aside from the fact she can't sing or play an instrument, keep the poster on the wall

what has this got to do with anything?

i used to like outkast but they annoy me for the most part now.

i've never heard a talking heads song.

rolling stones can fuck off!

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:18 (seventeen years ago) link

yeh, rolling stones can fuck off.

in a perfect world, the answer would be the beach boys but it's not is it?

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:32 (seventeen years ago) link

i hate the beach boys!

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:37 (seventeen years ago) link

you hate music

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:38 (seventeen years ago) link

maybe you could find out if you hate the talking heads and if not then the world is saved, yay!

lex, if you give a fuck about TH just try and watch the "Stop Making Sense" film-umentary cos really to appreciate them you have to see the effort David Byrne put into their live act.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:40 (seventeen years ago) link

i love music! i think the answer should be ciara.

are talking heads boys with guitars?

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:43 (seventeen years ago) link

you couldn't really wittle it down to that, although yes there are some guitars.

imagine about 20 people jumping around choreographically and playing energetic slap-bass driven post-punk with world beat stuff and backing singers, with the guy out of funkadelic on guitar and fronted by a skinny prep-nerd in a giant suit with a look about him like he's just worked out how to crash the stockmarket with the press of a button.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:47 (seventeen years ago) link

there is a girl or two in the band as well.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:48 (seventeen years ago) link

He's got a thing about mixed-gender groups.

I hate Ciara.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 6 July 2006 09:53 (seventeen years ago) link

Suggesting Ciara is almost as foolish as suggesting Yo La Tengo.

If there IS an answer to this, its almost certainly someone who's remembered for one big record that a lot of people have fond memories of and nobody hates. Soft Cell maybe.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 6 July 2006 10:09 (seventeen years ago) link

six big records

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 6 July 2006 10:14 (seventeen years ago) link

one big record

What, more than 12"?

alext (alext), Thursday, 6 July 2006 10:30 (seventeen years ago) link

M/A/R/R/S

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 6 July 2006 10:36 (seventeen years ago) link

Overrated.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 6 July 2006 10:53 (seventeen years ago) link

Charles Mingus. Everyone loves Charles Mingus.

Or Rahsaan Roland Kirk. If you hate Roland Kirk you hate life.

J Arthur Rank (Quin Tillian), Thursday, 6 July 2006 11:45 (seventeen years ago) link

thanks mr jazz douche, i feel less bad about suggesting Wir sind Helden now

fez (fez), Thursday, 6 July 2006 11:57 (seventeen years ago) link

How about jethro Tull? And Mountain. Everyone loves Mountain! if you don't love Mountain, you probably don't love Black Oak Arkansas either what's wrong with you?!

DAVE, for #1 Hits of yesterday and today! (dave225.3), Thursday, 6 July 2006 12:08 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't love Mountain.
I don't love Black Oak Arkansas either.
What's "wrong" with me is that I'm not you.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 6 July 2006 12:23 (seventeen years ago) link

oh, get one seriously

DAVE, for #1 Hits of yesterday and today! (dave225.3), Thursday, 6 July 2006 12:24 (seventeen years ago) link

go to hell

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 6 July 2006 12:53 (seventeen years ago) link

DAVE, for #1 Hits of yesterday and today! (dave225.3), Thursday, 6 July 2006 13:12 (seventeen years ago) link

teh_kit has 22 friends (g-kit), Thursday, 6 July 2006 13:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Hiya!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 6 July 2006 13:57 (seventeen years ago) link

JOURNEY!!!

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 6 July 2006 13:57 (seventeen years ago) link

darn.

teh_kit has 22 friends (g-kit), Thursday, 6 July 2006 14:06 (seventeen years ago) link

Maybe finding a song that everyone loves is easier? No it probably isn't...

A friend and I once (1993) concluded after discussing the matter for a few minutes that everybody liked "Two Princes" by the Spin Doctors... Oh boy.

willem -- (willem), Thursday, 6 July 2006 14:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Deee-Lite, obviously.

is in the heart (mike h.), Thursday, 6 July 2006 14:16 (seventeen years ago) link

I like the idea that everyone secretly loves Tull, but I'll venture Moloko. Or Lieutenant Pigeon.

NickB (NickB), Thursday, 6 July 2006 14:22 (seventeen years ago) link

80s Prince seems like a winner - but it's a bit reductive/cheating to not consider the artist's entire output. even there tho the great stuff is so great that can even the bad stuff make one not love Prince?

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 6 July 2006 14:30 (seventeen years ago) link

i don't even like Prince. sorry.
