I'm ready to start Outkast if we want to speed things up a bit? Gonna be on vacation starting in 3 weeks so I could wrap the whole thing up before I leave if I start it today/tomorrow?

Spottie, Monday, 26 May 2014 21:15 (nine years ago) link

I think that would be great. I don't think it would cross up tipsy on Dylan results. If anything, the Dylan rollout will draw some attention away from early Outkast campaigning, but people can deal with 2 things at once.

ice polled title imo

I mean what's poller than poll?

106. New Pornographers/AC Newman - staggerlee

Can we please please add Destroyer and Neko Case to this?

kornrulez6969, Thursday, 29 May 2014 01:08 (nine years ago) link

NO

resulting post (rogermexico.), Thursday, 29 May 2014 01:34 (nine years ago) link

yeah that's silly

mookieproof, Thursday, 29 May 2014 01:34 (nine years ago) link

okay maybe as side polls?

resulting post (rogermexico.), Thursday, 29 May 2014 01:35 (nine years ago) link

More like a Co-Poll, considering the amount of material under consideration (which already dwarfs the Newpies catalogue even before considering AC Newman, Zumpano...)

Just as I'd hoped, there was a band named Poll ("Maybe the most famous greek psychedelic folk rock band of the late 60's early 70's era"--skip the maybe, no one's going to argue). Here they are with Ποιος Μπορεί Να Πιστέψει:

Someone should run a poll. I want to see what they name it.

i agree, just add CAN as well.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 10 June 2014 02:52 (nine years ago) link

Yay Autechre's next!

octobeard, Tuesday, 10 June 2014 16:39 (nine years ago) link

xpost
thing is, when i volunteered to do dino jr. i was starting to get really into them and i just assumed by now i'd be an "expert" on them. but then i kind of fizzled out and i really have no business running the poll. my own ballot would be pretty lame (heavy on the S/T and YLAOM and Bug because those are the only ones i really like). i know a lot more about CAN and care a lot more about them as well, frankly.

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 10 June 2014 17:34 (nine years ago) link

105. Covers - kornrulez6969

This is cover versions, not album covers.

kornrulez6969, Tuesday, 10 June 2014 19:03 (nine years ago) link

I'll try to remember to add that detail in the next full list. An album covers poll would be fun though.

Charlie, Nick Cave/Bad Seeds/Birthday Party is in at 113.

KM, Dino Jr will morph into Can.

thanks!

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 10 June 2014 20:50 (nine years ago) link

btw, if you die of rabies I'm changing it back to Dinosaur

deal!

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 10 June 2014 22:09 (nine years ago) link

Not that I'm saying the Ae poll is going to happen -- partly because of busyness, but mostly because I'm out of title puns -- but I was thinking of throwing just about everything into one single poll: Ae along with Gescom and Ae remixes, and maybe even Ae remixed by others.

Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Thursday, 12 June 2014 17:45 (nine years ago) link

Notes on Eno: Eligibility for the tracks poll will include solo albums and collaborations (Eno/Cale, Eno/Hyde, Budd/Eno, Eno/Wobble, etc) and also albums by groups that Eno was a member of. So, Passengers is included, Harmonia '76 is included, the first two Roxy albums are included. But the nature of his collaborations churns the question of eligibility a bit.

Should Bowie's Berlin Trilogy be included?
Should More Songs About Buildings and Food, Fear of Music and Remain in Light be included?
Should James' Wah Wah be included? Should only the songs Eno mixed be included?

--------------------

Meanwhile, can we have Classic Rock?

no to all of those imo

polyamanita (sleeve), Sunday, 15 June 2014 21:52 (nine years ago) link

OK maybe the songs of Remain In Light w/co-writing credits

polyamanita (sleeve), Sunday, 15 June 2014 21:53 (nine years ago) link

i like the idea of a poll of everything Eno ever touched as a producer or whatever, but it seems like that is not the concept of the poll and it's more about his solo stuff and bands, and it's not like we didn't have a Bowie poll and don't have a Talking Heads poll scheduled down the road.

some dude, Sunday, 15 June 2014 21:57 (nine years ago) link

yeah leave that for side poll, maybe most 'eno' not officially eno tracks so you can add 'unforgettable fire', 'lemon', whatever else to the pile as well. would leave actual eno tracks poll to stuff that has his name on the spine. personally i'd probably have the roxy tracks in that side poll tbh. i can see other arguments though.

balls, Sunday, 15 June 2014 22:45 (nine years ago) link

Here was my thinking: Passengers and Harmonia '76 tracks should be included in the main poll, imo. I couldn't see any way to include them and exclude the two Roxy albums, even though Roxy has just been polled. But Roxy through an Enocentric lens looks different than Roxy through a Ferrycentric one, so I think that'll be fine. I've been kinda resistant to the idea of lots of side polls, but "best track Eno was involved in that isn't under his name as artist or producer" might be a good one. "Best Eno Production" will be one -- albums, not tracks.

classic rock! classic rock! classic rock!

"Voter 17 gets tickets to Cheap Trick on this Block Party Weekend!"

Damnit Janet Weiss & The Riot Grrriel (C. Grisso/McCain), Monday, 16 June 2014 00:27 (nine years ago) link

DON: We watched the rise of Cheap Trick, and were especially pleased after their Budokan album that their songwriting chops were as good as their live chops. To see a good band writing good songs with interesting characters get hits after KISS made it look easy gratified us.

GLENN: How many times were Henley and I in situations where the chick said "I want you to want me"?

DON: Well, yeah.

Can you imagine getting stuck listening to an Eagles "Block Party Weekend Six Pack"? People lived like that for years.
