To every smug, naïve, clueless Mets fan who for the past few months has harassed, berated and insulted my Yankees, the greatest franchise in the history of professional sports, maybe now you have some minimal understanding of the difference between winning and talking about winning.

Phil Cincotta
Massapequa, N.Y.

I'm trying to establish that philcincotta @ hotmail.com is this guy's address. Cuz we should all send him a sympathetic note, don't you agree?

Unbelievable to find this site! My years at PMA were the absolute best. I remember serving on the dance committee...those dances were the hit of the city in the 60's!

Phil--

LOVED your classy letter to the Times last Sunday (and what do you know, you had an identical one published in the Post! You're a Renaissance man). Fans like you are what the Greatest Franchise in the Hisory of Professional Sports (TM, YESNetwork) are all about.

Best of luck to the Yanks in the ALCS. I sure hope Captain Clutch doesn't hit into any more DPs. Is Clemens starting Game 2?

Yours,

Dr. Morbius
(a smug, clueless Mets fan)

Dr. Morbius:

Who are you....and how did you get my email?

Your email is dated 10/9.....either I am missing the sarcasm (my favorite form of humor!) or you have been living under a rock!

Phil

PS: Kudos to another renaissance man...you obviously read both also!

yankees payroll: $195MM
orioles payroll: $95MM

average income (Upper East Side): $282,656
average income (inner city Baltimore): $22,832

the problem is they didn't spend enough money.

Guys, I like the mets (not that I, you know, care about baseball, lol), but I'm not gonna pretend that their fielding holds a ten-year-old streetcorner prada knockoff to captain clutch and his golden girls.

i was raised by people who grew up looking into the stadium (literally) but rooted for the dodgers, and carried that prejudice longer than they did. nor did i have any interest when the out-of-town kids i went to college with got on the '96 bandwagon.

Torre Turns Down Yankee Offer

The Yankees offered Manager Joe Torre a one-year deal with a base salary of $5 million and the chance to make another $3 million in performance bonuses. But after 12 years and 12 postseason appearances (including four World Series titles), Torre turned it down.

“We respect his decision. We appreciate everything he’s done. But it is now time for the New York Yankees to move forward, and we will be doing it very quickly,” team President Randy Levine said.

General Manager Brian Cashman said that Torre’s successor has not been named, nor have potential candidates been formally identified. “I can promise you that the process is going to take some time,” Cashman said. “I ask for everyone’s patience as we review the individuals and make recommendations to ownership.”

I don't think Hank Steinbrenner has what it takes to be the Boss. Too soft.

“The point is, the objective of the Yankees since the ’20s has been to win a championship every year, just like the objective of Lombardi with the Packers or Belichick with the Patriots,” Hank Steinbrenner said.

“Our goal is to win it every single year, even though we know, obviously, you can’t win it every single year. But nothing less than a championship is considered really acceptable.”

G00blar, Friday, 19 October 2007 12:58 (sixteen years ago) link

And it was the 47th anniversary of Stengel's firing!

Olney suggested on ESPN that Joe could go back to the Mets. NO
