strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 5 March 2004 00:35 (twenty years ago) link

Mentioned this on the other thread, but bear with me anyway:

Piece of bread. Doesn't matter what kind. Can you make a sandwich out of it? Then it counts. Is it still in loaf form? Then it doesn't.
Cashew butter.
Piping hot super crispy bacon.
Tabasco red pepper jelly.
Piece of bread. (Should be same kind of bread as above, unless you're Donald Ducking.)

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 5 March 2004 00:49 (twenty years ago) link

tep is elvis and i claim my $5

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 5 March 2004 00:50 (twenty years ago) link

Nooooooo

I changed it up from a sandwich they make at Bayonne in New Orleans -- they use smoked duck and pickled red onions, I substituted bacon.

It's good! The hot bacon makes a little of the spicy jelly caramelize or something. It's like peanut butter and jelly, but uh oh, surprise spicy bacon!

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 5 March 2004 00:53 (twenty years ago) link

no it sounds great! i am just thinking about irt to my current uh "c'mon get healthy, fatty" initiative, and cringing.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 5 March 2004 00:55 (twenty years ago) link

If you thought of it as a substitute for a hamburger, it might actually be lower-calorie (don't quote me on that)..

But I grok -- that Jungle Jim's trip is going to be in the middle of Lent, and I've given up junk food, desserts, and fried anything until Easter.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 5 March 2004 00:56 (twenty years ago) link

Is it still in loaf form? Then it doesn't

NO! Ciabatta to thread.

Matt (Matt), Friday, 5 March 2004 00:57 (twenty years ago) link

Am I missing some obvious reason why Tep would only employ bread from different loaves in situations where he was gettin' jiggy?

Gregory Henry (Gregory Henry), Friday, 5 March 2004 00:59 (twenty years ago) link

That's not really a loaf! Is it? In the "it isn't sliced" sense, I guess it is, but I wouldn't talk about a loaf of pizza.

... pizza loaf.

...

Sorry, jess.

(There are no obvious reasons for jiggy Tep.)

(Wait, wtf?)

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 5 March 2004 00:59 (twenty years ago) link

Hang on, "Donald Ducking" IS rhyming slang right?

Gregory Henry (Gregory Henry), Friday, 5 March 2004 01:00 (twenty years ago) link

pesto sandwiches are god's gift to those who aren't god

oops (Oops), Friday, 5 March 2004 01:01 (twenty years ago) link

Hell Tep, in my hungrier moments, the comment applies to full sized loaves (incidentally, there is a fine tradition of Picnic loaves consisting of loaves of bread hollowed out, filled with meat, veg and stock and then weighed down for a couple of hours, before being sliced and eaten. I'm fairly certain that counts).

Matt (Matt), Friday, 5 March 2004 01:01 (twenty years ago) link

i had to stop myself from just eating the rest of the pesto straight from the jar

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 5 March 2004 01:02 (twenty years ago) link

i also had to stop myself from buying and eating a dozen donuts when i got my coffee today

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 5 March 2004 01:03 (twenty years ago) link

maybe i'm going to get my period soon

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 5 March 2004 01:03 (twenty years ago) link

Oh yeah, I definitely gotta take the loaf disclaimer back, cause of oyster loaves et al. Good call.

Donald Ducking -- in this case, refers to the practice of making a sandwich where the top doesn't match the bottom. High probability I just made that up a few posts ago.

Pesto -- one of the best jarred foods on the planet, I think.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 5 March 2004 01:06 (twenty years ago) link
