On Monday, September 22nd at 9:00 am, thousands of people will gather at Battery Park in Lower Manhattan to confront the root cause of the climate crisis - an economic system based on exploiting frontline communities, workers and natural resources. On the heels of the largest-ever march on climate change, we have an opportunity to transform the economic system driving this crisis.

Wearing blue to represent the sea that surrounds us, we rise to the steps of the NY Stock Exchange at 12:00 pm, flooding the area with our bodies in a massive sit-in - a collective act of nonviolent civil disobedience - to confront the system that both causes and profits from the crisis that is threatening humanity.

There is no time to waste - Wall Street must be transformed. Through the power of people taking collective action we will build an economy based on justice and sustainability and stop the climate crisis.

I can't help but think that Occupy helped pave the way for Bernie Sanders.

In addition to whatever rhetorical/political groundwork laying OWS may have done, there's actually a significant portion of OWS alums on staff & managing volunteers for his campaign too.

his major campaign themes are def ripped directly from the OWS agenda.

(it's so weird how people on this thread were discussing, many years ago, whether OWS had "failed" or not. history is long, and stuff has a way of taking a while to ramify.)

Riding by the park in DC where all the camps were yesterday - I've done it a hundred times, if not more - and the cabbie asked "when was it they had all those people camping out here?" and realized yup, five years ago, not that long after my daughter was born. Young radicals, you should utilize the Democratic party if you find it useful in the short term, but you have to understand: the Democrats hate you, and they will always hate you. There is no tangible evidence whatsoever to suggest that’s going to change.

i kind of agree w/ freddie there, but most of all b/c hillary clinton is a politician and that's what most politicians do, they drive wedges to win. clinton has been nastier than some, less nasty than others.
